I am reminded of this line from Sir Walter Scott, "Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive."
Maybe it does come down to belief, which means it all comes down to faith. That just brings up more problems, some of which have already been discussed. Faith must be extremely difficult to achieve, becuse if you had just a mustard seed's worth, you could move mountains. Since I have never seen a mountain move or been presented with evidence that such a thing ever happened, I have to conclude that no one in recorded history has had this much faith.
