Now I would never diss my own mama just to get recognition, take a second to listen for you
think this record is dissin', but put yourself in my position, just try to envision witnessin'
your Mama poppin' prescription pills in the kitchen, #####in' that someone's always goin'
through her purse and s***s missin', going through public housing systems, victim of
Munchausen's syndrome, my whole life I was made to believe I was sick when I wasn't 'til I grew
up, now I blew up, it makes you sick to ya' stomach, doesn't it, wasn't it the reason you made
that Cd for me, ma, so you could try to justify the way you treated me, ma, but guess what, your
gettin' older now and it's cold when your lonely, and Nathan's growing up so quick, he's gonna
know that your phoney

ok then he goes on to call her names n stuff, but if you look at it, hes only telling of his childhood.

as ive sed before.

ok, i know that my childhood wasnt that bad... but i can relate to some of the stuff he sez

believe it or not you canget your point accross with out sewaring every three words, hence why I won't like my younger kids listen to that kind of music.

Yeah. i know that. it is his background. he was brought up like that. but i think if you can look past that and listen to his lyrics, then you can start to understad him. for sure, i wouldnt let little kids listen to him, his music isnt written for little kids, even wothout the swearing. thatz what the 18+ sticker is for...

Aye, that is tru. im not talking about the videos, im talking about the music. yes it is real life, and i like that. id rather listen to that then about love n sex an all that crap. (talking about pop, i have nothing against love and sex). ok, what about TuPac? he is one of the biggest "Gangsta" legends. you ever head changes? he is talking about blacks getting on with whites. a lot of his stuff is about blacks lifting their heads and having self respect, cleaning their lives up etc. it is good stuff. im not saying that all gangsta rap is good. look at a lot of Dr. Dre stuff... but not all is bad either

BUT YOU CAN EXPRESS YOURSELF WITHOUT CURSING!
WITHOUT SEX! WITHOUT INNUENDO! Geez crikey.
The dude can control his tongue. I can do it. He can do it. THere is no magic switch to start cursing in a song.

'sup, G? You can't relate to what they're saying? Well, they can't relate to what you're saying either. That's the point.

You don't live on 8-mile, man. The whole point is that swearing is just another language, it isn't evil, wrong or impious to these people, it's just language. It's how they express themselves, and they do it to try and be as different to White, Middle Class, Church going Americans as possible.

Because they don't aspire to be you.

Life is tough enough for them. If God can't deal with the swearing, the drugs and the guns, then God is never going to reach them. Why should they bother trying to talk to you? You can't even get over the few linguistic differences between your cultures without trying to remake them in your own image. If you don't have anything more important to tell them than "Stay in school, don't swear, don't do drugs, obey the police, conform, obey, repent..." then you don't have anything to say to them at all.

Hiya Messenjah : )

(song): [victim of Munchausen's syndrome, my whole life I was made to believe I was sick when I wasn't 'til I grew up,]

Rumour has it that his life wasn't actually like this and he dramatized it or just flat out made things up. Why he's bashing his mom is anyone's guess, maybe she was just a lousy mother, and maybe he FEELS like the things she did to him were as bad as all of these things. And who knows, maybe they even *were* that bad, or at least they affected him as badly as the abuses in his song would have. Neglect can be one of the cruelest forms of abuse. And emotional/mental abuse is no less damaging than physical abuse.

The accusation that she was inflicting pain/illness on him due to Munchausen by proxy is actually part of what convinces me that his claims are false - if she really had Munchausen, she would have been declared an unfit mother (rightly so) and the younger kids that are there now would have been taken away by now.

Take care,
Saint J

I agree. All the swearing is annoying. A lot of rap is clever and well-written, but it would be even more so without frequent swearing. How hard is it to pick from a bank of five words or so, and find all the normal words in the English language that rhyme with them? Using it excessively is just a coverup for not wanting to take the time to find real words to express things better. I see such a helpless fallback as part of a society with no self-respect and no wish to make yourself better...except of course, for getting more cash, ho's (scuse the expression), weed, and chrome rims. I'm not being racist, that's just all I see to gangsta "culture."

I resent you guys repressing my ethnicity, man. Those words are simple Anglo Saxon terms - who decided that Latin terms for the same things were EDUCATED, but Anglo Saxon terms are SWEARING?

Bloody Monks - that's who!

Why pander to the Catholic churches bias towards one ancient language over another?

P.S.
The above was actually a joke - since nobody had anything of merit or interest to say, I thought I might as well have some fun with the thread.

....what? I just woke up out of a nexus zone...
I just don't dig rap. I hate it. It's stupid. The songs consist of sex, weed, b**ches, Bentleys and rims....whooza. That shows some serious thought into their songs.
Think about it Eon. "Sh*t" wasn't seen as a bad word, just another expression for the feces, mainly of animals. Yum. Then it became overused and used in wrong situations, and that's when it becomes a swear word. However, weird words, like the "F" word....I have no idea how that even originated. Or how it even relates to copulation...is it something British again? Cause I know you guys do weird stuff to word...ain't too phonetic.
And that joke must be a British insider too....

The whole thing is born of having a multi-racial society. Take Britain, for example, around 1066.

Here are the various languages you might find...

1. Latin - the language of learning, and an international tongue.

2. French - the language of the nobility. The tongue of polite society and trade.

3. Saxon - the language of the peasantry in the south. The tongue of farmers and labourers.

4. Norse - the language of the peasantry in the north. The tongue of famers and labourers.

5. Celtic - the language of the old people who were driven out. A tongue for old names, plants and superstition/folk lore.

Fast forward to a time when these societal divisions are no longer along lines of race. Yet the words all remain - it's why English has so many words for everything! Instead of being used by different parts of the community, the words have different contextual meanings. Some words are scholarly, some are ribald, others are poetic. In fact the words are, at source, no more or less than simple labels.

So the Latin word for a certain body part is considered offensive only by connotation, whilst the Saxon word for that same body part is considered rude and the Viking word is considered an insult.

It's Irish, I believe... A hungry sword... That's all I know, I really don't know too much Celtic mythoi stuff, to be honest.

Try a search on the net, and let me know if you find a good site.

Alright. My intro post: I am a christian... so yeah...

anyhoo

I dislike Eminem's lyrics as well, but not in the sense that they are evil. Yes they do contain hate, and hate == bad in Christianity, AFAIK. However, from a purely artistic/lyricist POV, they're genius. They have some artistic merit (then again, so do stories about child pornography, or so says some court in Canada). I like his style of rap. Most rap I know of is just "bling bling nigga" crap that I find materialist and downright ... shallow. And I find it soft. Soft as in "not rockin'" even though it may try to sound harsh.

I DO like many punk/rock/metal bands such as U2, Sum 41, Bad Religion (don't be fooled by their logo. it's more about the closed-mindedness of religion than anti-Christianity), Pennywise, Good Riddance, Anti-Flag, 3 Doors Down, Metallica, and such. (I'm wary of metal bands, as I do know that some bands aren't all that clean, spiritually speaking. Iron Maiden and Metallica are somewhat clean, IMHO. Judging from the Disturbed CD cover, I'll pass).

Punk is good because the message is usually about anti-materialism, anti-war, social justice (Ignite- Veteran, for example) and stuff like that. Which strikes me as somewhat in accordance with Christian ethics. Metal and rock because I like hard guitar riffs, hooks, and such, and the vocals simply are more "emotional" than a pop song about sex/love.

PERTAINING TO LANGUAGES:

Anglo-Saxon is the original language of England after the first Germanic settlers landed. Viking is basically dead (mark- prefixes are still present, though). In a country such as England, where it has been conquered many times by multiple races (Spanish would have been last in the 1500s, had the English lost), words often have many synonyms. We eat 'beef' but raise 'cows.' We eat 'pork' but slaughter 'pigs'. Beef and pork are both norman/french words. Before 1066, we'd be eating 'cows' and 'pigs.'

Chinese (my native language, spoken rarely now) lacks the amount of synonyms. English has over 1 million words, many of them redundant. Chinese has only 50,000 to 100,000, but with less redundancy. Swearing is less obscure.

THUS: The german word "f*ckt" (replace * with I) is an evolved form of the germanic root f*ck (* = O) whcih appears in many germanic languages (english, german, dutch, scandinavian languages). We do know that it IS a swear-word, through and through, because it reflects itself throughout N. Europe, regardless of Roman influences (eg. France, England). Side note: Celtic is dead, BTW, except in Wales, Scotland, and Ireland.

Oh...okay. Now that I know. Because I thought it would be German, with their Fokker planes, such as the one flown by the "Red Baron".
Welcome, as well!
Yeah, Metallica's great, they have some of the best songs I've ever heard. Sum41 is neat, but I haven't heard anything from Does This Look Infected? Blink182 is great, but geez, they curse WAY too much. Adam's Song was clean and good, so was First Date, and that was clean as well. Good songs. U2's fairly clean, and they are classic rock. I don't have 3 Doors Down new CD yet, but the one I do have, Kryptonite, is great.
I really don't get what's on the cover of The Sickness CD...I have my suspicions but it looks so weird I can't even place what it is.
Isn't Japanese one of the largest languages? With like three different dialects into it, different alphabets for them and all that?

I dislike Blink a LOT, just because I think they're a bunch of posers that aren't 'getting any,' but 'want some.' Green Day is a bunch of wannabe hardcore punkers, and Sum 41 is meh. 'Does This Look Infected' is actually, IMO, their best album yet. I'm more in tune with the real punk bands out there.

Actually, U2 (Bono, at least) is Christian. Their lyrics are surprisingly Christian-oriented. 'Until the End of the World' talks about the betrayal of Jesus by Judas Iscariot. It's worded so that it kinda sounds like a love song, but in fact, it isn't. And even if the song is not Christian-oriented, they still make it look clean, and quite beautiful (With or Without You comes to mind).
