FOOD!!!!!!!!

OK today will be birthday cake at some time.....little one is 6 today.......anyway......what kind of cake, frosting, etc for those of you who indulge every once in a while........and I have seen gluten free recipes and mixes out there too.....

We have a "Merida".....from the movie "Brave" cake.......it has mable cake.....chocolate and yellow or vanilla....... with butter cream frosting.....dude tried to get us to get the other wiped/less sweet kind, but I'm pretty sure we like this one better.......we don't do cakes for anyone else so we splurge for her........oh and purple piping around it....since purple is mommy's favorite.......my little one likes all of the colors......but honestly she really likes purple the best too.

Blessings and Hugs, "Angel"

Simple white or yellow cake with lots, and lots of frosting on it. But whadda I know? I had a vinegar pie for my birthday which was better yet.

My favorite has always been carrot cake with the thick cheesy frosting - then I went sugar free gluten free. I had a friend make me a gluten free cake for my birthday - it was okay, but not the same.

I opted for pie for my last birthday. Pie > cake.

But cake can be good sometimes as well. I have a friend who makes a carrot cake with pineapple in it that is amazing. Had that for a birthday a while back as well.

Ok at the risk of getting tarred and feathered and run out of the forum on a rail, let's for arguments sake say you are getting pie instead of cake for birthday, what would you prefer? Apple, Cherry, Peanut Butter, Shoo Fly, Pecan, what would you like? Y'all already know my preference for first place, second place would be Pecan(with whipped topping of course).

Tart cherry. I also love a mixed berry pie, blackberries/raspberries. Pumpkin pie (with plenty of spice) and custard pie are also wonderful.

Our local British Pub style place has a black bottom pie that is incredible.

Ok we need a drink of choice. I like coffee, but must drink decaf. Milk is best with sugary desserts, cookies and milk are perfect. But what I really like has to go, I am starting on diabetes medicine so must leave it behind sooner or later:
Coca Cola.

Water. Green tea. Black tea. White tea. Tisanes (herbal teas). Dark roast coffee with a touch of cream. Chai latte's.

And we love to have sparkling juices of all sorts for holidays and other celebrations. We had a tasty sparkling blueberry and pomegranate at a recent brunch. Sparkling blood orange is also a personal favorite.

Ok water main break here, so trying to feed myself using no water. So far I had a brunch of toaster waffles and micro sausage. What would be your choice?

P B & J?

Semi serious question fer ya vegans and those on a diet. Where and what do ya eat when going out to eat. Is it possible to eat healthy and cheap ($8-$12 for 2 not counting tip). Ponderosa is an almost in my book, we have a very good Chinese where we can get a few things cheap. Suggestions? Ideas?

Cheapest fast food we've found - Wendy's - baked potato and side salad - $3.01 But that is about the only things we can eat there.

Taco Bell has a taco salad that you can get with no meat and they add extra avocado and beans - forget the exact price but pretty cheap.

Subway makes a salad that is actually pretty good if you are going gluten-free. If not you can get a veggie sandwich. Both are $5.00.

We have a local Thai place - huge luncheon plate with a side salad - $6.95 Lot's of vegetarian choices.

Olive Garden has a gluten free menu that can also be vegan - but the prices are higher - $7.95 and up.

Most restaurants have side dishes of veggies you can get. Again, not necessarily cheap.

For ya die hard coffee drinkers what is your choice of brew. Thanks to meds I take decaf is mostly the way I go. I found a decent gourmet decaf called Sarkisian in a whole bean which is pretty decent and only moderately expensive, not insanely expensive. What are some of the decaf options to coffee also, I will drink specialty teas if they aren't crazy expensive.

edit: Anyone have any info on Rio Coco coffee other than the glowing words on their website? Am thinking of going to try the product, but am a little iffy about one of their practices. That of occasionally letting the children work next to the parents. And yes they develop schools for the children at the same time.

As long as it was a decent enough pizza in the first place, I love me some cold pizza the next morning. Sometimes, cold pizza even makes a middling pizza into a decent pizza. haha

Vegetarian dining out: Thai and Indian are both great for vegetarian options, though both are usually spendy.

Coffee: Tanzanian Peaberry. You can make it strong without it getting bitter. It also doesn't get bitter even when it gets cold.

Pizza: Pizza's one of the few foods I don't discriminate with. I'll eat bad pizza, I'll eat good pizza. I do homemade with the crust from scratch and lots of different veggies, and we also do mid-range takeout (Cottage Inn), but I'll happily eat a $5 Little Caesar's as well. Leftover cold from the fridge if I'm too lazy, but if it has a lot of veggies I prefer to pop it back in the oven for a bit. We don't own a microwave.

Finally had our Christmas dinner today with my brother-in-law and his wife. We went to one of their favorite places.

Red Lobster

And despite the no presents category, both sides had presents for t'other. And my brother-in-law took advantage of my hearing loss and jumped on the bill before I really heard the server ask about it.
