FOOD!!!!!!!!

My other half received an early gift that if it survives 'til then will make a wonderful addition:

Russel Stover Chocolates.

Angel another food to avoid and I don't sometimes is pomegranete juice.

I had someone try to give me a box of See's candy - they are big in the Bay area. As a sugar free vegan I just had to say no.

Ok not much time left until Christmas Eve, much to do and one thing is buy this for the table.

Chips and dip

I'll second Abba.

Though onion dip once a year or so is hard to resist. :D

And I love salsas of many varieties. Green salsa. Mango salsa. Fire roasted tomato salsa. Cherry salsa. And, of course, quacamole.

OK one day to go. The shrimp ring is in the refrigerator thawing, but I still need to get some more crackers and of course -

summer sausage

heard of a variety named Road Kill which I need to get as a gift for a friend.

Summer sausage (I feel the name is ironic since I only ever got it around Christmas) used to be my favorite thing ever. Mild exaggeration. Love love love it, though. Omnomnom.

It's here, it's here!!!! The Christmas cards didn't get sent out, the house is a wreck, the tree was never decorated, but here it is Christmas Eve. Very good friends are going to take us to lunch then I will come home and get the traditional Christmas Eve dinner started, it takes a while to cook our version of:

Swedish Meatballs and rice.

My sister fixes it for New Years Eve. But the Christmas Season MUST include it at some time. This is not questioned in our household.

Make it sevenish, gotta wear off my noon gift of a lunch at a Chinese restaurant.

Our Christmas eve dinner this year was chicken fajitas. Christmas day will be a sesame crusted white fish.

We aren't terribly traditional with our Christmas dinners...

We do have a traditional Christmas morning meal, though. Tomorrow we'll have some friends over (some of whom just drove to Michigan from southern California) for a late breakfast of crepes. There will be Nutella, fresh whipped (by hand) cream, berry compote, chocolate syrup, and fresh berries to decorate them with. And dark coffee, of course.

There's also a smoked Gouda awaiting in the fridge for whenever we decide we want it. Also a tradition for holidays.

Hmm.. my family, every year, celebrates with an Italian Thanksgiving and a Mexican Christmas. Every Christmas Eve we have the traditional ham and mashed potatoes, but my dad and I also spend a day making home made tamales.

Merry Christmas will be living off of the Goodie Table today, as well as meatballs may fix this later:

Cheesy scrambled eggs and sausage links.

nope - none of that is vegan - lol

I did make some gluten free blueberry pancakes with 100% maple syrup for Christmas breakfast.

I now swear by gluten-free almond meal pancakes. Best I've ever tasted plus low in carbs. For Christmas dinner, I made a roasted goose for the first time. Lots of grease but made great tasting gravy with it. The goose was very flavorful. As a Christmas tradition in the past, we always made the Filipino version of an eggroll called lumpia. This year was definitely a change as we made non-fried Vietnamese shrimp spring rolls that had no carb Shirataki noodles in it. We could not tell the difference from those served in the restaurants. So this will become our tradition for years to come.

I will say our noon meal on the 24th was interesting. Our dear Mexican friends(family really) too us to a Chinese restaurant in the heart of Appalachia, and restaurant had a Mexican cook, who was good friends with our friends. There just might be a lesson there on the melting pot concept of the U.S.. And we did have oranges on the goodie table as well. But my better half is so sick today she is trying to live on:

apple juice,

She is trying to stay hydrated.

The homemade tamales remind me of when I lived in Tucson. Seemed like on every block there was a lady who made tamales at home and sold them to the neighborhood. Fresh made tamales are so good.

Hey Abba, I'm curious. What did you use for your gluten-free pancakes? Also since you're vegan, what did you have for Christmas dinner since traditionally, meals consist of some type of meat as the main course.
