If you're interested in helping plan a Christian LAN event for 2012, please send a PM to cgdoc519, CGA's Staff Manager, and copy me on the PM.

What region of the US are we talking about?

Only reason why I ask is cause I attend a Quakecon in Dallas, TX every year in August and it is a giant LAN party for 3 days.

It's all in the preliminary planning stages, so we haven't settled on an area yet.

There's also the possibility of hosting multiple events in different regions (e.g. one party on the West Coast, one party in the Midwest, one party on the East Coast, etc.). That way, there'd be less pressure and less travel involved but I could still ensure that events are managed by community members I trust to represent the CGA.

A CGA LAN would be much, much smaller, of course, but Texas is a strong contender for the event site.

What are we looking for in a site? How many people would we estimate?

And... week end or week days?

Ohh.. I am highly tempted to do this. I've been wanting to do this since I first joined CGA. Now I finally have the responsibility to do it! If dates and times work out I might be able to swing it.

same here bro. I have a lot of expenses to figure out for 2012 but that would be awesome for a west coast *coughseattlecough* event.

lol, Seattle would be cool. I always enjoy driving up north, so pretty. I'd even go for Texas, the Manyik family would enjoy an excuse for me to visit. Plus free room and board! =D

If Odale plans it. I will host it.

I can provide WIFI, probably LAN and sleeping bag space at the church.

We have a full kitchen too. So you could easily set up a food thingy too.

I am close to 5 airports and major train bus stations.

Oh yeah, I was suppose to PM. Sorry too lazy.

I can't host it (maybe I can ask my church, and they can host it), but I can be a rep for the DC area. There's a lot of gamers out here, and a lot of tourism and things to do too for people who would choose to stay for a few extra days.

I love DC! Went there for a field trip way back in 7th grade and barely made it on the plane to head back home.

Is this a CGA event or open up to all Christian gamers who can make it, hosted by CGA? I just ask cause the title of the thread is slightly ambiguous.

You're ambiguous.

The location, promotion, and scheduling would be up to event coordinators. I'd be more involved in a nearby (read: Missouri or Midwest) CGA LAN event, but any planning and managing any other events would be up to trusted CGA community members.

For a Missouri CGA LAN, I'd be looking for a venue with low (or no) rental cost, proximity to safe and reasonably priced accommodations, enough power outlets and electricity to power all equipment, enough space for attendees to set up PCs without being cramped, so on and so forth. The usual LAN site stuff.

For first CGA LAN events, I'd expect no more than 50 attendees at any site, with the number closer to 25 mark. We could expand for future events, of course, but it would be better to start small and scale up as we gain interest.

If I planned a local LAN event, I'd plan it for the weekend, starting Friday night with the bulk of activity on Saturday night, a break for Sunday morning so attendees could still visit a local church, and a Sunday lunch and closing event.

There's so much that goes into a LAN party; this is all just preliminary discussion. I'd love to see more Christian gamers meeting and playing games together face-to-face, but first there needs to be sufficient interest to make such events plausible, let alone successful.

Do you mean you'd be interested in planning a CGA LAN event in your local area or you'd be interested in attending one?

It would be open to all Christian gamers and their friends, but it would be planned and arranged under the CGA banner. We'd be using the CGA forums as a "home base" for planning and promoting the event and spreading the word to CGA affiliates.

My purpose in using the CGA name to "rally the troops" is that we've developed a reputation and a communication network over the years. In my opinion, Christian gamers would be more trusting of people who've been involved in a community that's been around since the early 2000's than a random group of Christian gamers planning a local event.

No worries. We're making it up as we go along during the preliminary discussion and planning stages, so it's just as well that you posted in the thread.

If you can provide more information (location, dates venue is available, etc.), we can start sketching out some early plans.

Go ahead and ask your church if you're willing and let me know what they say.

Unfortunately I don't have the ability to host a LAN event. I don't think my school would sign off on it, nor have the capability to provide adequate wifi/internet/other necessities.

But I'm all for attending one, assisting in anyway I can! =D

enough space for attendees to set up PCs without being cramped, so on and so forth. The usual LAN site stuff.
But being cramped and trying to weave your way through the web of cords without yanking them out of people's computers is half the fun of a lan.

If Icthus plans it, I will let him host it.

He can provide WIFI, probably LAN and sleeping bag space at his church.

At a LAN at a friends house once a dog got excited and ran under the table and knocked over some computers like dominoes - was hilarious.

Starting at the bottom, I am Lead Pastor. It is okay if we host the event for free. That was easy.

Dates- Doesn't really matter to me, as long as we stay away from Easter and my daughter's High School Graduation in late June.

Location- Armonk, NY about 30 minutes outside of Manhattan. That is New York City for some of you who don't know.

We are close to trains, buses and the airports serving NYC. JFK is the hardest to get to and Westchester County Airport (HPN) is the easiest. I think people like Odale can fly there for like $100 from Hotlanta.

So, pretty much, if you want to have a Northeastern Expresion it is yours.

If I do somehow find a way up there, it's someone else's turn to get the rental car.

Edit: I just did a search on travelocity.com for an arbitrary date (July 13-16, 2012) and the cheapest non-stop was $347 with Delta (the actual cheapest was $327 on united with one stop). Delta's own website was cheaper by $20 on the same date.
