What would you leave behind?

As some of you may know, I am an estimator for an insurance restoration contractor. We deal mainly with repairing homes after insurance claims - fire, water, fallen tree, etc. A few of these cases have involved someone passing away in the loss. Today was one such case - someone had died in a fire.

This happened in an area where I know several people, so I asked what the person's name was. My coworker immediately knew that I probably wouldn't know the guy, based on what was left behind in his home. Stacks of dirty magazines, videos, and other such items were all over his home.

Most people don't realize how open everything becomes once you pass on. Having dealt with it firsthand, I can say that you will have family, friends, and possibly others going through every single thing you own - either for insurance/legal purposes or just to clean everything out.

This got me thinking - if my home were instantly open for police crews, firemen, and the rest of my family to see, what would they find? What could they infer about how I lived my life? Would there be evidence that God was important to me, or that He was even a part of my life?

I challenge you to consider this today. Take a look around your home and your life. If it were immediately over, and open for all to see, what would they find about how you lived your life?

Right now I'm just thinking...."I hope I don't die in a fire."

But its cool to realize what things they would find that define who I am a little bit

- Books that I've read, re-read, underlined, and written notes in ("The Jesus I never knew" and "Contrarians Guide to Knowing God" are constantly on my desk)
- My guitar
- Pictures of Samboe
- Fire Acadmy equipment/gear
- Golf clubs and a softball mitt
- And bank statements with accounts that have almost nothing in them. But its all worth it.

Reminds me of the saying..
"If you were on trial for being a Christian,
would there be enough evidence against you to convict you?"

I'd be sent to hell if it was on me to prove it... Good thing Jesus is my lawyer and He's a good one... I'd say the best, plus He's in tight with the judge.

For me I think they'd find a very very messy room full of clothes and coke zero cans, but among that they would find my art and hopefully my art would say good things about me. Some would be funny, some would get you to think, and some would be outright Jesus stuff. They'd also find a lot of my ramblings randomly around my room, and the bible next to my bed. It's not worn out but if they flipped through it they would see verses I've underlined that meant a lot to me when I read them.
