As some of you may know, I am an estimator for an insurance restoration contractor. We deal mainly with repairing homes after insurance claims - fire, water, fallen tree, etc. A few of these cases have involved someone passing away in the loss. Today was one such case - someone had died in a fire.
This happened in an area where I know several people, so I asked what the person's name was. My coworker immediately knew that I probably wouldn't know the guy, based on what was left behind in his home. Stacks of dirty magazines, videos, and other such items were all over his home.
Most people don't realize how open everything becomes once you pass on. Having dealt with it firsthand, I can say that you will have family, friends, and possibly others going through every single thing you own - either for insurance/legal purposes or just to clean everything out.
This got me thinking - if my home were instantly open for police crews, firemen, and the rest of my family to see, what would they find? What could they infer about how I lived my life? Would there be evidence that God was important to me, or that He was even a part of my life?
I challenge you to consider this today. Take a look around your home and your life. If it were immediately over, and open for all to see, what would they find about how you lived your life?
