I found this post on slickdeals by vodreaux for a free racing game.

It is not a Demo or Playable Demo, it is a fully game availabe to download for everyone to enjoy.

The Game

For the first time in the history of eSport, a video game has been specially developed for the Electronic Sports World Cup and is being offered free of charge to the players of the entire planet so they may commence training for the qualifiers due to take place in 53 countries on Friday 27th of January. The Grand Final of ESWC will be held in Paris from June 28th to July the 2nd , in front of 40,000 people, where the best players from each country will battle it out for a prize of 400,000 dollars.

This special version features a brand new environment, the Stadium, and a revolutionary new gameplay designed for Nadeo's own custom cars. Nadeo has pulled the technological rabbit from the hat with their own brand game engine, featuring the series' best graphics yet, finely tuned for the latest generation graphics cards, not forgetting simpler machines so that no one round the world has a technical freeze out on the race track. With the online in-game ladder, players can customise their cars and avatars and race in their nation's colours on the world's servers from Friday onwards. Many Trackmania and Trackmania Sunrise players will already have access to the following exclusive features: peer 2 peer data exchange and skin and avatar customisation.

The countdown to Trackmania Nations ESWC going online on Friday has commenced; in the meantime, we suggest you view the official trailer and we let the motors do the talking instead.

That's *awesome*!! I played the Trackmania demo way back. It's a classic arcade racer/puzzler. Don't know about this Trackmania "Nations" thing, but I'm downloading it now...thanks for the tip!
 
Ah, I had so much fun for like an hour. Solo training was fun, I cant imagin what multi is like.
 
I tried some online racing tonight, and it's definitely fun. :) The whole "nations" thing gets the patriotism up with some friendly competition. And some of those tracks are insane!!

TIP: space bar is for chatting.

I'm still working on the solo training, i'm half way through the last one, advanced i think.
 
Is "Nations" somehow different/limited from the normal version?
EDIT: Holy cow! I just looked at the screens and this game looks like a modern version of the classic Interplay game Whiplash! I'm downloading it now! Can't wait to try it out!

My understanding is that "Nations" is completely free. They're trying to promote the game as a kind of "sport", so they're releasing it free for the "pros" to practice before...I guess some eventual competition. I haven't encountered any limits on it yet. I think they can get away with it 'cuz a) there's only one car model in the entire game and b) the scenery is all the same. They already had the engine and editor down pat in Trackmania and Trackmania Sunrise (if you haven't downloaded the demos for those two, get over there and check 'em out, they're just as much fun), so they released both - engine and editor - as a free game for people to go nuts in.

At least that's the way it looks.
 
Cold Steel downloads 265MB Trackmania and gets an error file cannot be opened - corrupted. dial up is so much fun!

I got my son to download it. Now I'm waiting on him he came up but forgot to burn it to dvd for me. next week.:)
 
Ok, so apparently it's just a slightly crippled version of trackmania. Maybe not crippled exactly, but like shagz said, there's only 1 car in the game, and it seems like there's only 1 real gametype. It's still a very high quality fun little racing game, I'm gonna beat all the training and then play through the Sunrise demo some and maybe I'll get Sunrise. I just wish there was some mode where you could interact with the other cars and stuff.
 
I finally finished the training, some of it was really hard :) Now to play online. Too bad xfire doenst resgister it, cause i've played at least 10 hrs this week.

Wow, I spent about 1 hour on the second to last level in the training and about 2 hours on the last training and I finally beat it. Curse this game for being so darn addictive!
 
I figured out *why* it's so addictive - it's way too easy to reset your car back to the beginning of the track!! :) You screw up once, and with a button click you're back at the start to try and improve your time...next thing you know, when you *finally* beat that deviously difficult turn and cut your time down enough to grab gold, 2 hours have gone by!!!
