Terraria?

I was wondering about that game. It looks kinda fun. Anything unique about it?
 
If you liked Minecraft you might like Terraria, it is very similar, but with a 2-d 1990's side scrolling twist to it.

It's very entertaining.
 
A contra meets minecraft was my fist impression, looks nice and seems to be a decent buy for that price too.
 
I like how you can create a character and take it anywhere (unlike Minecraft where you start over every time you go somewhere new).
 
Looks cool. Thanks for sharing. Does it give you direction or is it very open ended? It might be too "sandbox" for me.

There are areas of the map that have been taken over by the "Corruption" (the baddies) you get to kill them.

Its definitely more goal oriented than Minecraft, which is just survive.
 
Demon Alter, Demon Eye, Demon Bow, Demonite Bars

Question for those of you who have played this game. I noticed on the wiki that their are quite a few references to demons and was wondering how prominent this is. I was hoping to play this with my wife and son, but stuff like this really turns her off to games and I don't blame her. We tend to stay away from overtly demonic content.

Can you get around this stuff and still enjoy the game?

The "Corruption" is the only thing you fight (aside from zombies, skeletons, and blobs).

For instance, you can (purposefully or accidentally) spawn the Eye of Cthulu, which you fight - you'll always fight the Corruption, never join it. You can also stay away from the corrupted areas if you'd like as well, you don't have to come into contact with them.

There is a under level filled with lava and demons, and of course it's name... well let's says it's called the opposite of heaven.(Sorry for the vagueness.) xD Aside from a few references and item names, it doesn't really get in your face or in the way of the Terraria experience.

Terraria is full of enchanted items you can find in randomly generated chests through the world, from the high skies to the deep depths. Some can only be acquired thru the dungeon, which a boss fight is required first before you can enter.
The battling in my opinion is funner than Minecarfts fighting system, enchanted items make it customizable how you fight to from high defense to being really quick, and also magic attacks.

The game is very hard during the first day of playing in real life, and continue to be till you upgrade your armor and weapons, though the whole experience was worth it to me.
It's awesome playing with friends and really easy to, they have an in-game server host for you.

To wrap it up I'd say Minecraft is about building, but Terraria is about adventuring and gathering awesome items, though I got bored of Terraria during the 4th day (About 30 hours worth of playing), they are still updating, I'd still say it's worth the money though. ^.^

I did forget about the hell level... but thats at the very bottom of the world (naturally) and you can't accidentally get there unless you dig straight down (which still takes effort and planning).

That level is exactly what you'd expect.
 
Well, I took the $10 plunge and picked up a copy of Terraria. I will try it out today and if I can get my wife hooked I may pick up a second copy.
