Our retarded filter

Because cursing is more than a set of words.

It's the intention behind those. The Bible teaches us that our thoughts are just as important as our actions. If we consider adultery, we're guilty of adultery.

The same applies to cursing, if we consider cursing, but use a 'clean' word, then we're still cursing. You can use ANY word as an expletitive and it's just as bad as a regular curse word, because you are still committing the sin.

but using 'gosh' instead of God is good thing, it means that players arent taking the Lords name in vain, same goes for dang, the reason expletives are bad is b/c they have certain conotations(?), words like gosh and dang dont have the same meaning as some of the others, thats why mothers raise there children saying gosh darn instead of well you know, just my 3 cents, its a little more than 2

As New Testament Christians, we are under grace not the law. In a nutshell means we are accountable not just for our actions (like under the law) but we are also responsible for our heart attitude or thoughts (as Kidan said)

It is possible for someone to say 'darn' or 'dang' or any other non curse word with a clean conscience. Its possible. The problem arises when someone else, Christian or not, is offended by what we say.

We're not just accontable for our actions and our heart attitude but also for how our actions influence others.

Grace is a great thing, but its dangerous as well

I'm not advocating legalism here, but I am stressing that each of us should have a higher standard of behavior considering whats at stake.

James 3:10 NLT
And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely my brothers and sisters this is not right.

Matthew 5:37 KJV
But let your communication be, Yeah, yea; Nay, nay: For whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil

1 Corinthians 8:9 NLT
But you must be careful with this freedom of yours. Do not cause a brother or sister with weaker conscience to stumble.

I can understand your frustration, Thad. I really do. Here are my thoughts on this:

Kidan does have a point. In the Old Testament, physically sleeping with someone was adultery, punishable by death. In the New Testament, merely thinking about sleeping with someone is commiting adultery (in your heart) - both are one and the same sin.

With that said, even if you say 'crap', you could very well mean something else.

If you are in good standing with God, and your relationship is right and you are not living in sin - and you can say 'crap' and not feel convicted about it, then don't worry about it. If you don't feel the Holy Spirit tugging at your heart to stop saying those words, then possibly it's not a stumbling block for you. But, with that, be sure that your heart is right and you are listening to the Holy Spirit and also that it is not a stumbling block for someone else.

As leader of this chapter, I see many different beliefs and practices. Everyone was brought up with a slightly different belief. Please keep this in mind, and although some people feel strongly about one subject, others may not. Some may feel that one thing is wrong, others may not.

I appreciate everyone sharing their heart and feelings, but remember - those are yours and yours alone. Not everyone will agree. I would encourage you to listen to the Holy Spirit and search the Word of God if you aren't sure about something. I hope this helps.
