On the front page...

I try not to boast as a rule. Sometimes, that's harder than others. Right now, I'm not even trying to stop myself. I'm too excited.

See... I wrote this little piece on competitive fighting games on my gaming blog. But, just to get a little more exposure, I decided to post it to Bitmob, a gaming news site for aspiring game journalists.

This morning, when checking my email, I saw something totally awesome...

I made the front page! :D

Hyped, I started telling people I knew. Despite writing for game sites for years, it's not every day I make it on a site as large as Bitmob. So, it was pretty sweet.

Then I got to thinking, "hey... I doubt it'd fly, but maybe I can get on the front page of Shoryuken, too." Shoryuken is the foremost site for competitive fighting game enthusiasts, a site I've been a small part of for a couple years now. So, I sent an email to their newsfeed manager on my way to class this morning. When I got out? Yep.

I made the front page there, too! :D > 9000

Will any of this translate to a job somewhere as a game journalist? Probably not. But I'm incredibly stoked, so I thought I'd share.

Grace and peace,
-Kenny

Thanks! I'm still pretty stoked about it. :D

Eeeeeek! Without my even doing anything to make it happen, I got published in the newsfeeds of N4G and iPlayWinner! My article is also getting a lot of links on Twitter. :D x 9001

Grats on getting some visibility with your writings. You have a God given gift.

Congrats Kendrik. Great article too :) I only played up to Super Street Fighter II and that was the best, imo. I think that's about 16-17 years ago when I last played. I remember my Sega Genesis was centered around this game too because it was so fun. Favorite characters: Guile and Dee Jay. Nowadays I have lost all interest in the genre. But Super Street Fighter II was the best and Mortal Kombat will never compare to it.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I feel like the hype has mostly passed. A good thing, if you ask me. I figure it's better to set my focus on doing something more awesome than lingering on what I've already done.

Nothing generated more anger than fighting games (in my personal experience). It even passed the level of Double Dragon when your partner would ignore the bad guys and start beating on you.

I had traded for Mortal Combat II back in high school. After rage became the modus operandi following each game my father made me trade back the game.

The worst experiences came at the controls of Soul Calibur II. In a fit of rage, a friend of mine opened his gamecube, pulled out the disk, and snapped it in half with one hand. Another friend, who owned the same game, pulled it from the gamecube and threw it into the wall. I personally decided not to play the game again, and held to it for over a year before peer pressure from a group of friends caused me to play once. I haven't touched it (or any other fighting game) for years now.

Quite frankly, the worst is the one friend who finds a move and sticks to it (usually a kick you in the leg move that requires a low block) for most of the round. When you finally start blocking that move he changes to another move and continues to use that one. I can handle losing to superior timing and better overall handling, but picking one move for the round and then laughing at me hysterically as my life dwindles away raises my rage to unsafe levels. . .
