No thread title can express how excited I am about this news

I saw the clock ticking on the site, and I immediately knew what it meant...

But do you know how to read Japanese?

Unfortunately, no. My wife and I plan to learn the language. We'd like to visit Japan one day and speak and read Japanese well enough to make the trip without a translator.

Plus, if I learn to read Japanese, I'll finally be able to play some of the games that have never been localized for a US release. Even more importantly, I'll be able to watch anime raw releases instead of waiting for fansubs.

Dōmo arigatō misutā Robotto that's just about all I know for Japanese.

don't take this as spamming... but...

Obviously Tek is incredibly excited about this title.
Since the release of this thread he has typed almost a page just in this thread. That is a page in a day and a half.
props...

Now Tek... my question is...
Chrono vs. Final Fantasy?

(I personally cant answer that... considering i pick Chrono Trigger > Final Fantasy 1, 2, 6) yet... ( i pick Final fantasy 7, 8, 10 > Chrono cross )

sadly, i never took a lot of time to play Chrono Cross or the other one... Radical Dreamers... Which may be the reason i picked FF over chrono cross.

personally Chronos Trigger is #1 on that genre

Single game?

Chrono Trigger. Hands down.

The Final Fantasy series started to tank after VI, even though VII is arguably the most popular game in the series. VII was a beautiful game with an excellent battle system, but when it comes to characters and story, VI wins hands down.

There are some heart-rending moments in FFVI, but I can't stomach random encounters since discovering RPG gameplay can work--and thrive--without them.

Series?

I don't know if it's a fair question. There are only 2 entries in the Chrono series (3 if you count Radical Dreamers, but that's a stretch). There are 11 main Final Fantasy series games, 3 Tactics spinoff titles, and a MMORPG.

Chrono Cross was a fantastic game that would have received far more love had it not had "Chrono" in the title. I don't think anything could have lived up to the expectations gamers had set for a sequel to Chrono Trigger.

I don't think there's any series out there with more than a few titles without a few duds. Final Fantasy VIII, Legend of Mana, Grandia III--they all represent low points in their respective series. Sorry, Squall fans.

I understand my views on RPGs aren't very popular, though, so don't take my viewpoints as common.

I don't know Tek I agree with a decent amount of it :)

Agree. Chrono Trigger was most probably the best made rpg ever. FF4 and Chrono is just a closer race for me.

I agree about FF7 but prefer FF4 to 6. Although the characters in 6 are very good I found trouble relating or "role playing" a single individual. I felt more like I was watching a story unfold. It is probably because the character followed switched frequently and the 2 main ones were women. I didn't have that problem in FF4. Of course that only makes 6 come in under 4 for me, it's still a excellent game. Random encounters FTL.

I agree Legend of Mana was a dud alright. Much, much more so than Chrono Cross, legend was a sequel was unworthy of it's franchise or using for a coaster for that matter.

However I liked FF8. I found the romance aspect refreshing (maybe I just think Rinoa is cute IDK O.o :p). It did have a very weak main villain character.

I really did not like Chrono Cross though. You are correct taking Chrono out of the title would have made it more appropo (note: it did have a tacked on plot connection to to trigger) but I still only rate the game slightly higher than the extremely dry and hokey Legend of Dragoon. It had no charm and it felt like the multiple endings were more a procedural homage to the original than anything else. I can't even remember most of the game as it was so forgettable and convoluted. Plus too many characters in a game means you never really develop any of them and Cross had 45 OF THEM! It is a huge distraction to getting involved in any plotline to have to manage that many characters and sidestorys. I remember Chrono Trigger much better and I played it a lot longer ago.

So I guess the US is getting CT before Japan. 2 days earlier, but still. Whee!
Only 2 days? That's fantastic.

Maybe other companies can take a hint from Square Enix and make a greater effort to get their games in the hands of English-speaking fans more quickly.

Yes, I'm talking about Atlus. I'm not even going to try to be subtle about it. Seriously, people. Five months to localize a game for North America? This is 2008.

This is even more impressive considering Square Enix is choosing not to simply copy and paste the original "quick and dirty" translation from 1995:
The DS version will also feature a new translation, but still remain close to the original

Here's hoping Square Enix puts in at least as much effort as the Chrono Compendium put into the Chrono Trigger Retranslation Patch.

CT FTW!!! ...and I also loved FF8 and FF3, I really liked FF7 but beginning with FF7 kinda created a new generation of FF games...I thought FF9 was a horrible game, 10 was good but too easy, and 11 was great but not worth the MMO time, and I have only played about 5 hours of 12 and I still have the collectors edition sitting in a cabinet in my entertainment center...
