Woohoo! I'll wait with great anticipation for Avesther's build, but right offhand, I'm already drooling over circle of renew -- imagine healing your whole party for 1448 hp with one click! Yeah, probably pretty useless since you can only have 5 party members... but oh the possibilities!

If I'm late for Ony tonight, you know where I'll be!*

*not that I'll be late, but I might be distracted while we're clearing mobs...

I think this build would make you a happy camper Quantam.

Additonal 5% crit chance on offensive spells and +5% more damage on offensive spells.

Yeah, reason I put 5/5 in shadow focus is because for mobs higher than level 60, the resistance checks are different than if I were only doing PvP against other level 60 players, I believe according to what I have read on various priest forums. Also that improved Shadow weaving would be 5% more spell dmg to every mage in the raid, better than giving myself another 1% spell and 1% crit. So I would settle for the extra 2% dmg, bigger mana pool, more efficient instant casting spells, and slightly better threat reduction. Oh and as well as the improved divine spirit talent which I will require to be casted on me at all times :D All in all I will be an even happier raiding shadow priest. =)

Well, Shazzrah would be a problem for me in MC, as would the end of Golemagg. As far as BWL, I am not sure what kinds of AOE which could prevent me from fullout DPSing, but I believe that that is more the exception than the rule.

Alot of BWL fights are Line of Sight fights Quantam, that means you go in, damage, leave LOS so you don't get debuffed for damaged for 8k. Rinse, repeat.

I'm interested to hear what you think of the new talents and spells Aves - How do they stack up to the new stuff for the other classes?

I don't know priests well enough to really understand what the new stuff entails.

From what I see there is not a major change for heal bots.

It looks more like a make over to me.

However, shadow looks to be more "cool".

I think they are still trying to find a way to make "light" priest do damage.

"Light"??? As in the Light Eldritches in Hibernia? I am not too excited about the priest talents, I dont know why. But now, at 42 or 43 points into shadow... they can heal and they also get a posse.

Well I know Quantam will like some of the new talents, but I suspect he'll skip the Shadow Mend in favor of a free spell (inner focus) or even spirit tap.

Fact is that if a shadow priest starts healing or a disc/holy priest starts dealing damage, they're wasting mana. Not that it's a horribly bad thing -- in a tight spot, Quantam can save us with a quick heal (and Vamp. Embrace rocks!) But in a very serious boss fight, mana efficiency is a primary concern.

Yeah, I throw out smite here and there in MC -- but only when we're overhealing like mad and I can afford to "waste" some mana to hurry the raid along. In a Domo fight, I wouldn't think of it.

I think I will be using the 2nd build I posted above when I reach 70, or a very very close slight variation. After watching many PvE AQ40/Naxx videos from the shadow priest point of view, and reading many many threads on this topic, it's all about being able to sustain your DPS during the long and longer boss fights.

When boss fights are 10 minutes or more long, mana efficiency is key. Points spent in the Disc tree for Mental Agility and Mental Strength will be amazing. I currently do not have any points in those 2 talents, and I can't wait to have them. As far as 5/5 Shadow Power (15% increase to chance to crit for Mind Blast, Shadow word death), that is an AWESOME ability for PvP but for PvE, mind blast is the damage spell I use the least. Reason being, much worse mana efficiency than Mind Flay and Shadow word pain, can cause high enough threat to pull aggro if used too excessively. I will Mind Blast every now and then on a boss though, like when I pop TOEP, or if major DPS is needed quickly because we could wipe and the boss is at 2%, or just every 30 seconds or so.

In Molten Core, its actually harder to keep up my mana because with every boss almost, it's just constant DPS with no breaks. With other bosses that I've seen in BWL, AQ40, Naxx, you have to take breaks to run away from stuff, move around, etc, so you get to regen during that time.

Related question:

when the expansion comes out, would that be a good time to respecc shadow to level/try it out for a while (I leveled before as holy)? I imagine raiding would be much slower for a while as everybody rushes to experience new content and we all take a while to get on the same page at level 70.

In that case, what might you (anybody really) suggest as a good interim spec? Something that allows for more soloing as I run around the new world melting faces...
