I don't know about anyone else, but I can see the need for expanding my available slots to hold all the drops we will be getting in GW2. On top of that, crafting is going to require lots of space, too. Its great that we have a place for materials, but when we craft a "component" there's not designated slot for it. And that takes up bank space.
So how do we get more bank slots? Yes, there are expansions for banks available in the Gem Store. But I got to thinking about a technique used in some other MMOs where a player created a "Bank Toon". That character really did nothing except hold goods, maybe sell excess, but really didn't adventure anywhere.
But that's because those other MMOs only allowed one character per guild. In GW2, ArenaNet allows players to be part of multiple guilds, but only represent one guild at a time. Multiple guilds are possible.
I have not played around with the guild stuff, but I assume that every guild has a guild bank of some kind. And if one temporarily switches influence to their "bank", that guild can expand the guild bank by three ranks due to influence.
So does that mean you can have EACH of your characters start his/her own guild just for the guild bank access, not representing those guilds, and still be part of LoE and represent LoE? Such as creating a "Bank of (insert character name)" Guild?
If so, it seems it would be cheaper than say "purchasing" 30 bank slots which only opens a few slots for all your characters at 600 gems as opposed to 1 silver for a guild (which can be expanded to 50 slot bank for 1,000 influence @ two days of work, expanded by 100 more slot for 5,000 influence, and even 100 more slots for 10,000 influence for a total of 250 slot bank).
And I don't know if this is possible, but maybe, since a character can be part of multiple guilds, maybe that character can "purchase" multiple guilds, too. 250 bank slots per guild and so on and so on and so on for as many as are needed without having to purchase or spend any gems.
We probably won't need extra bank slots at the beginning, but rather further into the game. So when we have high level characters out busy crafting, each character can have a dedicated bank of 250 slots not counting any bags or bank slots purchased from the Gem Store.
Just something to think about.
