This post is also in the ToJ forums, but I posted it here for anyone who doesn't visit there. If you responded there, I'll see it as I'm tracking the topics.

------------------------------------------

Ok, I played EverQuest for an unholy amount of time over the last year and a half and finally got burned out and sold my account. I really enjoy the immersion of MMORPG games, there's just so much to do and the social aspects are really cool to me. (I actually had several opportunities to witness to ppl in game!) So, I'm thinking of possibly trying out another game in the genre for those reasons.

Honestly, I'll probably hold out and play other genre games like Jedi Knight II until Star Wars Galaxies comes out, because I think that will be the big daddy of the genre. So, what do you all think about the following games? Are they worth playing?

Keep in mind that I have read multiple reviews on each of these games from sites like gamespot.com, mmorpg.com, etc. Obviously, opinions from my peers here is what I am after the most. Thanks for your time in answering.

- Dark Age of Camelot.
- Aescheron's Call 2.
- Anarchy Online
- Neverwinter Nights
- Shadowbane

Also, what about these upcoming titles? They worth waiting for in your opinion?
- EverQuest 2
- Star Wars Galaxies
- Planetside (is this more of a FPS or an RPG?)

I played Asherons Call a lot and beta tested the sequel. The new one has gorgeous graphics but way different play than the original. Pretty clean RPG though. Quite fun

I like writing reviews but I'll be brief and give a couple sentance synopsis on all the titles listed here.

- Dark Age of Camelot-DAoC combines structred pvp and good pve with a nice graphics engine (if you have shrouded isles) and stable servers. DAoC's biggest thing against it is it's slow leveling speed. You almost have to be level 50 to compete in RvR and getting there is no easy task. Some casual gamers have had the game for a year and a half since it's release and have not made 50. On the otherhand powergamers can make 50 in one week. Mythic has incorporated Battlegrounds for the lower levels so that casual players may compete in RvR. On a lighter note mythic's current patch in testing is addressing many out-standing class bugs and please many gamers. DAoC is a good safe choice for a fun time if you can play it alot.

- Asheron's Call 2-AC2 launched with the best graphics engine in MMORPG's but they proved that graphics were not everything. It may be a clean game as was posted above but it's servers are ghost towns. The game has many bugs and most ppl have given up on it. Read it's forums and you will see what I mean. AC2 is the choice if you want to look at something pretty with no personality.

- Anarchy Online-AO is futuristic MMORPG but may not be the best choice for a ToJ gamer. It is a darker game with half-naked women and an ok graphics engine. IMO I would not go AO just because of it's lack of values. You may not like what you see here but it could be your Sci-Fi fix.

- Neverwinter Nights-NWN is not technically an MMORPG. If you liked being the DM in D&D then this is for you. You can create your own scenarios and participate in ones created by others. This game has a single player feature though and does not have the immersion of MMORPGS. If you're a D&D nut this is for you.

- Shadowbane-SB has some great potential. Guilds play the major role here and the can shape the game world but constructing cities into the gameworld itself. Leveling here is much faster and the classes have more skills to play with. SB is a new MMORPG and is not without it's bugs. Login servers are slow at primetimes and the big servers are liable to crash at primetimes. If wolfpack fixes up the servers and the game matures into a real game of Guild wars, then the immersion of fighting for your city and conducting politics with other guilds may be great. Be warned though, this is really a full-on PVP game where pve is devoid of quests and super-strong MOBs.

- EverQuest 2-EQ2 looks to be a long way off but early screens show a beautiful graphics engine. It will be a PVE game like the first EQ and probably has the greatest immersion factor. Don't look for it anytime soon though. Look elsewhere if you want to play an MMORPG anytime soon.

- Star Wars Galaxies-SWG is coming along nicely but has been delayed. Some of the features have been removed so that it can be released this year. It looks to have a great immersion factor, being that Players will run everything from the government to manufacturers to shopkeepers. This game is an odd form of pvp, placing players into a battlefield and fighting for the Rebels or Imperials. Im not in beta for this game and can't speak much of it til release.

- Planetside-I'm not in planetside beta either and do not know much about it. It looks to me to be a large scale FPS with skills on your avatar to increase. You'll have to ask Tek about Planetside.

Whew im done now, someone save this somewhere heh...incase anyone else asks I dont want to type it again

Sweet review Cresh.

SSquare, thanks for the link.  This now makes me wonder, should I join the The Concecrated Christian PA, (who's members have posted here) or should I wait for my group, Tribe of Judah to get a PA going.

If we don't have any beta testers in ToJ, (I suspect we don't) then starting a PA is probably pointless since little is known about the game beside what we read.  It seems that at least some in the TC PA are beta testing now, with some intimate knowledge of the game already.

I'll be thinking this one over.

You guys left out the one I'm most looking foreward to: World of Warcraft. I've been a fan of the Warcraft series of games, and of Blizzard games in general, since they've been out. I have yet to be anything but impressed by games by Blizzard.

Blizzard = best gaming company

With a p2p enviroment youd hope they will be able to keep a full team working on patches and updates, but no doubt it will be the easyest to pick up and most user friendly of the new mmorpg.

This is how you can tell how long and to the extent of someones gaming experience. Comments resembling this are often left by the nubbish.

Name a company that has constantly had as many hits going all the way back to snes! I didnt think so nub.

Name another computer company with the same name reconginition that does not have a console. Name another company that has never had a game sell under 4 million copys. I think not nub.

I only started playing computer games about 6 years ago I was a big console freak but i have played a lot of classics and few games stack up to the greatness of Starcraft or Warcraft 2 even the orignal diablo was a masterpeice in its day.

Hey Exo, one thing..

Blizzard has never made an MMOG before. They have no experience in it. They can't be compared to companies like Mythic and Verant.

Verant > Blizzard

Go play Planetside!!!! I'm in the beta, and oh my goodness... Best... game... ever. So much fun. WAR!

Think DAoC RvR, times 10(10 continents on PS), and it's 24/7...

While blizzard may have the sales they are not revolutionary game companies. They are a very very successful game company. I wouldnt say they are the best

Yeah another point in that. Successful doesn't mean best.

There are lots of RTS better than Warcraft. Lot's of RPG's more popular than Diablo. And Starcraft sucks.(waits for flames).

Personally, I think Blizzard does a good job on their games, but they aren't the best.

Somewhat off-topic and related at same time, anyone else waiting for D2 patch 1.10? It's in testing right now

I never said blizzard was going to make the best mmorpg i said it would make the easyest to pick up and most user friendly of the new mmorpg. Also that they are a great company with a great track record.

Also saying varient has experience at making good mmorpg is funny, i know so many people that despise varient and everything they make because of Everquest. I never played the game but have heard numerous horror storys.

Mythic I rather like i was realy into DAOC last year untill I finaly gave up on it. I just wish it was easyer to pick up and leveling was a bit faster I think that is where WoW will make MMORPG better.

Mixing huge enviorments, large communitys and great visuals with an easy to pick up and quiker paced game that many less hardcore gamers need to get into those kinda games. I dont have 25 hours a week to invest in a game just to be able to play Realm Vs Realm or pvp. If you havent checked out the latest video for WoW its great check it out here.WoW Preview

Edit: jeez after Wrighting that 3 people replied.

And you think WoW will be any different? The level treadmill will be in EVERY RPG, that's why I avoid them usually. In Planetside, you have levels, but it's not a treadmill. A lvl 1 can kill a lvl 20, because it's based on skill. So no rush to reach 20. In an RPG, the reason they have levels is to advance into a big bad avatar, so lvl 50's can dominate a lvl 1 in a single blast. And it has nothing to do with the player's skill. MMOFPS pwns MMORPG.

And the problems in Evercrack are found in every MMOG, it's not Verant's problems. I have a friend who used to feel the same way about Verant, he hated them. He played Evercrack and was some uber avatar, but he hated certain things Verant did. Guess what? He's stoked about Planetside regardless.

Obviously, blizzard is your favorite company, but they are most certainly not the best or most sucessful company. Even if they were the most sucessful, that hardly counts for much. Microsoft is easily the largest software corporation in existance, does that mean that windows doesnt stink just because its what most people use?

May I ask what is you guy's favorite Gaming companys?
I must know what is so amazing it would blind you to blizzards awsomeness.
