Good luck on it, I recommend wiping everything you get as soon as you get it and reinstalling, then making a dvd image of the reinstall. That way you dont have the trash and have something with most of your favorite basic apps, and dont go through as much rebooting for patches.

I'll second that.

First thing I did with my Dell Inspiron was wipe the hard drive and re-install Windows. Then I started installing only the software I use.

I didn't make a backup image, but I might do it next time I wipe and reload the OS on my notebook.
