It's that time of year again...

LOL Honestly?

I've never celebrated Halloween.

Never dressed up, never trick or treated, none of it.

Why? As I said before, I grew up Christian and recognized what the day was REALLY about, so I didn't celebrate it.

Now? Now I'm just don't care LOL

However, this year I'm planning on decorating the walkway to our house and scarying the crap out of little kids before giving up any candy

DV!  That is so mean!  I vote that if you must do that, they should get small boxes of Godiva's

Gen, I love your tradition of lacing the candy!  I want to follow that idea!  Does the Christian Bookstore have candy already prepared with verses or do you create your own, if so, how?

Some Christian book stores carry things others don't. The other thing that is really easy to do is buy some business cards you can put through your printer and print the verses on there. Then make up little goody bags that have candy and verse. Plus the kids then know that everyone is getting the same thing. Since my family enjoys arts and crafts we can decorate the cards too.

We missed out on a lot of this last year because I was sick, but this year we are going to be doing it all.

lol  It does carry bad connotations, that's for sure!  But Jesus can make all things new!

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. Isaiah 1:18

We are doing good lacing, not like the drug, or corset, or...hmmm, I bet the first lacing was done by Chrisitians.  Maybe some lacing up of some Indian's boo boo, by the Pilgrims on Halloween night?  They were loving!  Horatio Box says so!

Looking at it from the trick-o-treater's persepctive tho, I am quite sure they will not have pleasant reactions to being handed bible verses. It kind of conflicts with the spirit of Halloween--and not necessarily the 'demonic' and 'evil' atmosphere, but the atmosphere of fun. These kids are out there just to have fun; dressing up like a devil doesn't mean they are one. So do what you wish when handing out candy, but be aware that you will likely be met with much apathy and discomfort.

So, if I made you homemade chocolate covered cherries and other delights from my kitchen, you would reject that?  Just because I opted to include a Bible verse?Or would you think this lady may have something different...at least, from the guy that just tried to scare him/her to death and gave them an ole' piece of bubble gum?  Some rock hard, off brand at that!

Most parents I know would be hesitant to let their kids eat ANY kind of homemade goodies unless they knew exactly who it came from.

Yeah anything homemade or was slightly opened would be thrown out. There was alot of candy found infected with drugs when I used to trick or treat. So even a small hole in the wrapper ment garbage.

And u could put a bible verse but most kids would eat the cookie and throw the wrapping and anything else out. Well atleast thats how I was, I used to eat the candy not worry about reading anything.:)

Most people only take their children to places where they know the person. At least, around here.

You mean you never read the story of the candy cane, either?

We usually reach more parents than children. When we carved pumpkins last year, we put crosses and fish (not real ones of course) on them. There were a lot of positive responses from the adults.

We were also thinking of putting something out for a collection to our local food bank. Not too sure how it will go over, but it may be worth a try.

Heading back to the topic...

You guys are ok with participating in and celebrating Halloween?

I ask because staunch Christians are not. Of course, the same staunch Christians celebrate Easter and Christmas too

When I was christian I used to celebrate Halloween. Didn't really look at it as pagan. Just thought free candy cool. Plus fireworks are always fun.
Maybe your looking to much into it DV. It might be pagan in origin, but think about the half price candy the day after.:)

...for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
I Samuel 16:7
As long as we are not celebrating it in an ungodly manner, I see nothing wrong with it.

MB you are priceless!

Hope everyone gets fat full on 1/2 price candy!

Uh, but how can you celebrate something UNGODLY in a godly manner? For example, how can you worship a pagan idol in a godly manner?

Are you SURE that's what the heart of the matter is? As I've already shown you, every aspect of Halloween is pagan. How can you, as a Christian, feel good about celebrating and participating in pagan rituals? I'm sorry, but I just don't get it.

Ephesians 5
11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.

James 1
27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

3 John 1
11 Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.

Deuteronomy 18
Detestable Practices
9 When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. 10 Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD , and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. 13 You must be blameless before the LORD your God.
