Hooray! I figured out Polymock!

Abba San

Legacy of Elijah [LoE] - Proud Grandfather
I did it - I completed the quests and defeated the masters - right through Hoff himself. Once I figured it out - it was very doable. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was easy (I hate it when people in the forums say - "It was no problem - easy - don't know what people are complaining about."). Believe me, If I can do it - anyone can.

I think the summoned Ruby Djinn is my new favorite best friend. I'm going to see if the Djinn can help me get through Jaga Moraine.

I wrote down the pieces I used successfully and a few suggestions on technique so my other guys can get through. If anyone is interested let me know.

If anyone has good ideas for Polymock I'd like to know how you did it. I'll add it to my list of suggestions.

I would definitely like to know how you did it! I haven't really gotten into Polymock yet, but it's on my todo list. :)

It is going to be a while before my Monk gets down there so I wrote some notes to myself. I didn't want to forget how I did it. This is just my way - and I am certainly no expert. I just survived - and this is how.

I think the first one was pretty easy - then I did this:

For Defeating…

Plurgg - Gargoyle - Skale - Fire Imp
Finished with hardly any HP – I thought I had lost. I don’t have any idea how many tries it took. This one was so hard for me that I almost gave up on Polymock.

Blarp - Fire Imp - Gargoyle - Kappa
Finished with +40 HP on 2nd try* – addition of Kappa piece made all the difference.

Fonk - Gargoyle - Kappa - Fire Imp
Finished with +1200 HP on 2nd try*

Silverfist - Kappa - Earth - Fire Imp
Finished with plenty of health on 3rd try*
(I did Silverfist first because the only reason I was doing Polymock was to get the skill Summon Ruby Djinn)

Teardrifter - Gargoyle - Earth - Kappa
Finished with +200 HP on 3rd try

Volumandus - Gargoyle - Earth - Kappa
Finished with +2000 HP on 2nd try

Hoff - Earth Elem - Kappa - Fire Elem
Finished with +90 HP on 2nd try

*the number of tries is with these pieces. I’d try the recommended pieces a few times before I realized they were not working for me.

I didn’t dodge anything – I gave up trying. I was worrying so much about missing a -120 shot that I was missing the interrupts and blocks and taking -600 and -800 shots.

One key was to discipline myself to use the interrupt and block on the major damage skills. Once I did that I made progress. I found that if I could block or interrupt the big shots a couple of times each round I could when the contest.

Another key was managing my energy well – doing the math so I came to zero energy and could hit skill 7 for another ten. Know what each skill costs and plan on heading to zero. One energy left – spam. Two energy left – the skill 8 glyph of power + the spam skill. Three energy left – a block and spam or spam and skill 8 glyph of power + the spam skill or one of your other skills that is a 3 energy. Get to zero and hit skill 7 as quick as you can.

One strategy to remember is: DO NOT quit fighting even when you are about to die. If you can cut any HP off the opponent before you die it gives you a big boost in the next round. In most cases my first two pieces died before the opponent’s, but my next piece came in with the big hit and took out the opponent very quickly.

I used the Gargoyle even when it was not recommended by Wiki or the forum helps – until I got purple pieces. I just found it very effective. The Skale did not work for me at all.

I did save a couple of pieces I received as rewards to pass on to my next guys to go through. I didn’t register and use them – maybe it would have made it a bit easier. They should make it easier in the early levels for those coming through – then they can pass their unregistered pieces back to me.

All the forums say that Hoff is so easy. My guess is if I had tried him first he would have been the hardest. He seems easy after you get into the flow of Polymock and your fingers are hitting and blocking and refueling effectively. Once you defeat the three guys before him you are not going to stop there. That is why he seems so easy.

A helpful site was: Rob’s Polymock Help Guide

I hope this helps. I'm still collecting anyone's ideas for future attempts.
