Headset Hunting

I tend to pay more for my headsets, so I can't recommend a specific product, but there is one thing I'll say. I strongly recommend getting a headset where any volume slider on the cord can be separated from the headset itself.

With just about every set I've owned, regardless of brand, the stupid thing has broken after a year or so and caused me to lose sound in one or both ears.

I've actually been meaning to solder the wires from my last set back together sans volume slider, but I never gotten around to it.

These are what my roommate and I use. They are ridiculously comfortable and solid quality. When it comes to equipment like headphones, you really do get what you pay for.

In my experience, cheap headsets always wear out over a year. By then, the wires in the cord break, mic stops working, etc.

So I have decided to do the following, and it has been the best, most reliable solution.

I got a Zalman Microphone ZM-Mic1 and clip it to my headphone cord. Make sure to check on the +20dB microphone boost when you use this one.

Then you can buy a quality pair of headphones (Sennhesier, Audio-Technica, etc.) and it will last a long time. Best decision I have made.

+1 to Shadetaker

Last Christmas I saved my money and spent it on one of these.

I have never spent that much money on a headset before and I am hoping I won't have to again for a while. (I also wanted to replace my Logitech z5300's.)

Anyway, back to what Shade said; I will guarantee you that you'll break the volume thing or it will get stuck and break or something else will happen.

May pick up a new gaming headset if I see a rockin' deal on Black Friday, so I'm keeping an eye out.

I picked up a pair of the HS-1s just about 2 weeks ago now.

Sound quality wise I find them incredible, with the 7.1 on it really sounds like the sounds are coming from around the room and not a headset. They are large enough and very comfortable which is a must if you're wearing them for awhile.

Only two minor issues I have with them. I get a slight white noise kind of hum if I turn on mic monitoring (so I can hear myself). With it off I don't get it, on TS people say they can here me clearly unless I have the mic monitoring on as well (they also hear a slight him. Kind of minor really since usually you don't want to hear yourself anyway, but thought I would mention it. Other small thing is I wish the mic was about 1 inch longer, it feels short, although like I said others say I' am clear on it.

Overall I've been impressed with them and definitely a big sound difference over my old Sennheisers.

(Sennheisers are great but this is higher quality until you get into the higher range Sennheisers $175+ etc, my old pair was a $75 pair and this out performs them by far)
