Guild wars 2 is looking simply amazing

Oh man.

Ooooooh maaaaaaan.

That was incredible. O.o /hasn't watched any other footage yet

I was like "PHANTASY STAR!?!?!" when I saw the sheer size of that dragon. So awesome.

The graphics and animation are nice but it the gameplay looks like more of the same. That is pretty much the exact same thing I did on my wow Mage five years ago except now the dragon is bigger. Not knowing much of the game I was expecting something more fast paced or skill based then sit in one place and spam fireball.

The game revolves a lot around positioning and mixing up skills with your allies (AOE fire spell will light a friendly Ranger's arrows for instance), Gametrailers.com has more videos to show you the combat.

I play Street Fighter for a living. Spamming fireball is rule number one of survival.

/not really... on either count

Well mind you that this video was made under a very small part of the GW2 game and it is a boss with players that have only been playing for a few hours, maybe a day or two at the max. So naturally you won't see the complexity that I'm sure is involved in the game and don't you normally wear down a stronger foe? Hardly ever in games do you come across a boss and One, Two, Three, dead. From what I saw, I saw a bunch of players loosely cooperating to slowly wear down a formidable foe. And in battle there are some players who's sole roll is to put down some suppressing fire.

Like I said, it's a very small section of the game we have seen and the players have been able to play. The opportunities to play the game and get some footage out on the inter webs is to show GW fans that GW2 is awesome and to illustrate the dynamic changes GW2 offers over GW.

IE. the Charr player, which I noticed would run like a giant cat instead of a biped like in GW, the large amount of health the character had, as well as rolling, jumping, and the large amount of damage his spells do, etc.

That is true I suppose random people on a show floor aren't going to give the best gameplay example. Maybe I'll check out those class videos when I have some more time. I think it's more like this type of game just doesn't appeal to me anymore. Standing around some giant boss for twenty minutes as you whittle down it's million HP I'm just sort of over it. None of the big MMO's I've seen lately have done anything that would make me sink that much of my life back into the genre.

From what I read on one of the sites compiled on the guildwars2 website, there at any time was roughly 40-60 players taking down that dragon. They were doing things such as attacking it directly, to beating people out of the crystals that drained life that the dragon was launching, to repairing and shooting the seige weapons that helped to kill it which is a mini quest all in its own.

All in all, it looks really awesome, and if the fighting is similar to GW 1 then I'm fine with that. All I know is, a lot of the class combo's that you can do on there are really amazing. One of the ones I read about was you have 2 warriors, one with a 2h. hammer and the other with sword and board. The hammer weilding one uppercut the mob sending it flying and before it landed the sword and board guy impaled it with his sword dealing rather massive damage.

I believe this will be one of the greatest games of all time to date. I clocked a few thousand hours in GW1, and the game certainly had faults, but those were definitely out-shined by its good points. While it may appear similar, Guild Wars is absolutely nothing like WoW, as it is designed completely differently from the ground up. Every single change I have looked at for GW2 is perfect from a game design perspective.

Example: Monks (healers, mostly) are being removed and classes will have more self heal
Why is that good? Because monks ruined gameplay by dependency...they were required for PvE (limiting team options), and PvP was limited to spike teams, which wasn't very fun. This is a good change.

Long story short: they're taking a tremendous game, and somehow making it better. I can't wait.

That alone could easily make it one of the best MMO pve/pvp group experiences ever.

Why do you think my main character is a monk ;)
While I do agree with your thought, I am a little crossed that they are taking out my profession and in GW monks aren't the only healer class anymore. They are, without a doubt, the best, but Rits and Necros can be a suitable replacement. But like I said, it probably is for the best to add more party variety.

My monk will live on in my hear tho..

This is what excites me the most. Arena Net is one of the few innovative companies that I trust could pull off eliminating the Holy Trinity and still have a fantastic balanced game.

But but but but but... I train to play support since people I know tend to wanna deal damage.

What will I do without a monk!?

/not really worried

/crazy hyped about GW2

Eh, don't worry, support isn't gone. They just aren't making combat in its entirety revolve around it. I still maintain that the A/W DB/SY build was one of the greatest support build ever...and that was on a "glass cannon" class. The thing to realize is...having healers with large dedicated heals really doesn't create real support.

Good gameplay typically revolves around certain mechanics we take for granted...like that the mobs tend to be wimps we slice through on our way to the epic boss battle. This is why "status affecting" spells in RPG games are always worthless...it's pointless on rag mobs you can one-hit anyway, and they never work on bosses so they are just useless.

Sure, we won't have people healing us for heaping gobs of HP with enchantment stacking + dwayna's kiss, word of healing, etc...but that simply means that we don't need to do as much damage to get the job done. It evens out. But we will still have team support, it just won't see the power creep it did in the past, which is a great thing.
