FOOD!!!!!!!!

Speaking of the bridge, when I moved to Michigan we came along the Northern route from the Pacific Northwest. That meant entering Michigan through the UP, and driving a U-Haul over the bridge. I didn't have much experience with so-called "high profile vehicles", and no experience driving them in really gusty conditions. It wasn't bad enough that they shut down the bridge, but it was strong enough that I had to fight it to stay in my lane the whole way across.

Love some cherry pie. It's a very different thing when you use fresh, tart cherries rather than emptying a can into a crust. The first slice, of course, is eaten while still warm with a dollop of vanilla ice cream melting over the top.

Now my mouth is watering...

Why oh why have I not read this thread before.......I thought it was an "in game cooking" thread not "whatcha gonna eat" thread.

So many things sound so good and others repulsive.........I just read the whole thread today.

Ursen you really LOVE that cheese curd thing......I believe I've had it a LONG time ago.......you bring it up every so often.

I will have to see what I can add to this thread over the next few weeks. So much good out there...

I had a co-worker who loved cheese curds as well. I think he knew someone in Wisconsin who would send him bags frequently. He was always bringing them to meetings and passing them around. Tasty, but it's easy to eat waaaaay too many.

Just read most of this thread and skimmed the rest. It made me happy. All the Southern goodness that's popped up made me especially happy.

Enok ya think a trailer is fun on The Mighty Mac, try a motorcycle on a gusty day up there. Odd thing is there have only been 2 vehicles ever over the edge, one a Yugo going way over the limit in about 1993. The raw video I had access to was pretty grim when they pulled it off the bottom onto a barge. The second was about a year later with a pickup truck they figured was a suicide. But while we are at the Mackinaw straights let think Native American because of the Ojibway casino in St Ignace. I had a Native American friend that used to make us:

Indian Fry Bread

A very basic, tasty food.

Roast in the crockpot with carrots and potatoes..gonna slow cook it all day so i can give the wife a nice dinner

Haven't had Indian fry bread since I was a kid, and my grandparents lived in Washington State.

Nice, Waynos. We're crock potting today as well. One of our family favorites, "chicken and rice". Chicken, rice, water, cream of celery and cream of mushroom soup, onions and celery. Stew all day and tasty eating at night. I add crushed red pepper to my bowl.

I had fry bread cooked by a Pueblo Indian over an open fire at the Pueblo de Taos in New Mexico - like eating dessert.

wow that sounds great!!!...do you par-boil and cut chicken breasts or just cook it in the crockpot and cut it when you serve it

I will be gone for a couple of days so I'll give ya something to work on in that time. Kendrick mentioned Southern Goodness, so my son is coming in for a couple of days, and one of the places he likes to eat when he is in is:

The Waffle House

We might have brought this up before, but I ain't about ta look through all of the posts to find it, and it should spark some good discussion. The Waffle House and The Huddle House are unique, almost fast food eateries started in the South. Breakfast or other items at The Waffle House 24/7 including all Holidays. Hash browns All The Way anyone?

I used to have a favorite Waffle House whn I was younger and in Georgia. I pretty much avoid them now - into more healthy alternatives.

My only experience with Waffle House did not impress me. It sounded like it should have been awesome. I ordered biscuits and gravy (duh... who wouldn't?). I found that I could lift the gravy off the biscuit as if it were a pancake-like solid resting on top. Thaaaaat did not win me over.

That sounds terrible.

I've never experienced Waffle House. We occasionally go to the International House of Pancakes, but there's a local restaurant that serves better breakfasts for about the same price. They have a great Atlantic Bennie. Poached eggs over salmon on English muffins. Tasty rosemary potatoes on the side and fresh fruit.

When i lived in Tennessee we called Waffle House "The Awful Waffle"
nothing worse than a smoke screen of flies wait staff you can't understand.
i made the mistake of asking how the biscuits and gravy were and she replied "they make you wanna slap your mama"
so after that i looked for a place to eat with a less violent menu lol

I have a hot sauce called, "Slap Yo Mama" - I put it on a lot of things. My wife doesn't like it, though.

LOL ! "slap yo mamma" hot sauce (too funny)
but its gotta be great on that Scattered smothered covered with cheese and onion.

Ok kinda back, and yes we ate at The Waffle House, ours is a decent one, they just blast the music on the player a bit loud. Another place I took him to was new to me also, and I will eventually take my better half there:

Five Guys

Expensive and music too loud, but excellent food.

Couldn't put it better myself. Then again, I don't really remember much of music too loud... but good Gouda! do I love me a Five Guys burger... and them fries!

Made the mistake of buying a large fry last time my brother and I went. Was hungry. Thought we could take down a large together. Noooooope. Threw what felt like half of it away after nomming them burgers and the first portion of fries.

Shoots. Now I want some Five Guys.

I'm partially deaf so if I say the music is too loud it probably is. We were smart and order one small for two of us, we finished them all. *burp*
