FOOD!!!!!!!!

mine is the "gut Buster"
we make it here sometimes and the name is because it makes you very full

here is how it is made;
2 1/4lb hamburger patties
1 bag of french fries or waffle fries (doesn't take a whole bag but helps if making for more than one person)

1 onion (regular or sweet)
shredded cheese of your choice (or sliced if you prefer)

cook 2 hamburgers
cook 1 bag french fries (or waffle fries depending on preference)
dice and fry peppers onions and celery using light amount of oil (olive or regular)

take 2 hamburger buns
place one hamburger patty on bottom bun
place some shredded cheese on top
spread some fried onion, pepper and celery
add a small handful of fries
place some shredded cheese on top
spread some fried onion, pepper and celery
add a small handful of fries
top with second hamburger patty
shredded cheese and top bun

options;
add ketchup, mustard or thousand island dressing (some use blue cheese dressing or ranch also)

sounds kind of strange but is actually really tasty lol

Yes brats count. And Waynos sounds wonderful, one of a thousand ways to fix the great American burger. Even our Mexican friends little girl has grown to love hamburg quesa. Yes it changes gender on queso.

Saw these crazy sandwiches at IHOP last night. They are apparently now serving the equivalent of an entire omelet folded in between two pieces of Texas toast.

With hash browns on the side. 8O

I watched the skinniest young woman order one. She only ate half of it, however, which was a little disappointing after the set up of seeing it arrive in front of her.

Sandwiches brings up a thought for dieting. I wonder how a BLT would do with the following if fixed right:

Turkey Bacon

I'm not sure it's worth it.

3 slices Bacon, pan fried 180 calories
Two slices whole wheat bread, toasted 180 calories
Slice lettuce 1 calorie
Three slices tomato 20 calories
1 Tbs Mayonnaise 57

For a total of 438 calories. Eating 1500 calories a day to lose about 2 lbs/week, that easily fits into my lunch budget with a piece of fruit on the side.
Go with turkey bacon at 35 calories a slice and you save a whopping 75 calories. :P Better, IMO, to just have the real bacon and be satisfied with an amazing sandwich, and less likely to crave something later.

I started doing a food diary a while back, and have had some success losing weight. One of the things that amazed me was how I could fit bacon into a daily calorie budget. It's portrayed as the ultimate in evil food (so tempting, so bad), but it's not that bad if eaten in moderation. The real problem is that it's easy to cook up way too much and keep eating it in a breakfast type scenario.

Keeping a food diary has really helped me be more specific about the choices I make, rather than just trying to "eat better" in a sort of random way. For example, for a while I left the mayonnaise out of my tuna sandwich. Then I discovered that a Tbsp of mayo isn't that terrible, and it makes a tuna sandwich taste completely different.

Not that I'm going to eat 1500 calories of mayonnaise and bacon every day. But being able to include moderate amounts of things that are really tasty in among the vegetables and whole grains makes a big difference in whether I feel like I'm depriving myself or not. It's a lot easier to eat 1000 fewer calories a day if the food tastes amazing.

EDIT: Oh, and in case anyone is thinking, "But the cholesterol!" According to WebMD a slice of thick cut Oscar Mayer bacon has 10mg of cholesterol, while a slice of Louis Rich Turkey Bacon has 13mg!

My big problem in eating right is lack of real time, and the expense of healthy ingredients in this area. Not to mention can't keep the kitchen table clear enough to eat at. So I'll just have a nuked
Mettewurst
tonight.

Edit: Elucidate on food diary. What is it kept in? What is kept in it? Are there sources of specialized diaries? etc.

The thing that really helped me was a food diary app that I downloaded on my phone. I can set calorie goal for the day, and enter in foods as I go, and it keeps a running total. The one I use is myfitnesspal, but there are several.

It also keeps track of macronutrients like vitamins, and you can see how many calories are coming from fat/protein/carbohydrates.

Don't know that I'd ever be able to do it long hand. Too much work to write everything down and look it up.

Never been a big fan of french fries. Not really a potato person, per se.

I do enjoy them at Red Robin dipped in A1 sauce. Never liked catchup, either.

I'd rather have tortilla chips and salsa or popcorn as a salty snack over french fries.

I enjoy french fries, unless they're covered in salt like Red Robin's. Yuck. If we go there, we ask them to bring us salt-free fries.

Yeah, I do tend to like salty things. When given the option between the typical salty fried appetizer and a sweet dessert, salty fried wins. And I like whatever the other seasonings that is part of their salt mix. Probably MSG. :D

My wife, on the other hand, has a vicious sweet tooth.

It's dangerous, because we end up eating things we wouldn't normally find tempting because the other person enjoys them.

I've never done the whipped topping on pecan pie.

My wife did make an awesome pecan pie once that had a chocolate layer at the bottom.

My wife is making a Cheesecake for this weekend she is using my families recipe it stands about 4 to 5 inches tall and so decadent I need to ask for forgiveness after each bite. lol

Sorry, Ursen. We looked through the recipe box and didn't find it. It was a couple years ago she made it.

I do know one thing that has been tradition for our family for Easter, and it just makes sense when ya haz 6 kids.
Deviled Eggs

Huevos de diablos!

So tasty, and so easy to eat way too many of them.

Sometime, not so easy to make, however, if you have trouble shelling the eggs. The two most common theories I've heard on what makes eggs difficult to shell is 1) Freshness and 2) Not cooling them down quickly enough after boiling.

I never knew fudgsicles had a smell until someone brought some to a meeting at work while I was in the middle of a fast.
