E3 is on!

BC2 has that. When you get a critical hit or almost blown up, your half blind and deaf. Your screen is red, the sound is muffed and your heart beating rapidly. The usual way to recover from it is to have a Medic drop a Med pack so you get healed.

I want something that would prevent things like this . I could be wrong but it looks like the guy shot the knifer before the impact of the knife and it didn't push or stop the knife from connecting a bit (he'd have to have fired prior to his death unless it was from a third player). Taking a real bullet will push you back significantly though the point is not to be real but to make actually hitting your target with a bullet > running directly towards a guy with a knife. I wish I could find a better video of it happening from a longer distance because I know I've seen a knifer get hit from a longer range and not break stride. At the range in the video it may be impossible to prevent due to lag time.

I'm probably derailing the thread now although I was originally talking about a relevant subject to the E3 >.< .

Come over for some games any time, but judging by your location, it'd probably be cheaper to just buy an Xbox 360 Arcade and the game.

I missed Konami's gig the other day, and I haven't found the rundown of everything they talked about yet. Anybody else catch it? I'm primarily interested in the Yu-Gi-Oh! game coming to XBLA.

Vancouver, WA

Your still in America.

As for Yu-Gi-Oh, I like playing the PC version but dislike how you have to pay to have other cards.

On my BC2 montage, 5:15, I knifed a guy in the back but I only slashed him cause the hay was in the way. :p

According to IGN's preview from two months ago, all of the cards available for the XBLA game will be unlockable through play; however, you can buy the same cards online if you don't wanna take the time to unlock them. My understanding is that those who drop extra money won't have an edge over those who endure to unlock things. This, of course, does not necessarily remain true if the game sees expansions in the way that the XBLA Magic game has, but those are full fledged expansions, each containing multiple decks, cards, and single player challenges; they're not virtual booster packs.

Frankly, I won't be surprised if the YGO game follows the same model, and I rather hope it does. It's great for those of us who enjoy the game but don't want to spend hundreds upon hundreds of dollars to make a sick deck. It's also a cash cow for the publisher since it seems more likely to turn us would-be fans into hardcore fans than to turn hardcore fans into casual fans.

Regarding E3... I'm pretty sure that I feel just about the same about everything as I did before. I'm still hyped for the same games as I was before (MvC3, baby!!!). I think my "I'm too cheap to buy games when they first come out" mentality has led to me not being as hype prone as I once was (except for MvC3, of course... get hype!).

I'm convinced that a limited budget is a shortcut to wisdom.

That being said, it's going to be difficult to resist the urge to buy a first-generation 3DS.

Knowing Nintendo, you could expect four upgrades within the year. X_X 3DSiXLGrande!!

In eight colors but they will add half of those later :p.

Ok if you are all taking about E3 games what about Portal 2 anyone? I don't think it will be as good as the original (just becuase you'll know what to expect) but it will still be a great game and maybe have a longer play time.

I respectfully disagree. Portal is adding new gameplay mechanics.

EDIT: Check the Portal 2 and Tag: The Power of Paint Wikipedia articles for more information.

I have owned portal for about 2 years, and never really played, I started last night and was having a blast...it is rather easy I am almost done with it only after playing it for an hour...but I have to say portal is now one of my favorite games of all time...not only that but the story was rather good, even though it was designed to be a non-sense game...and it actually creeped me out sometimes... :P

Sorry, but I had to lol.

Come back and post again after you've finished the game.

/grin

i breezed through it for about an hour or two

then i think around level 12 or 13 or something, my soul was crushed, and i spent another hour weeping on the floor

Totally unrelated, but this comic shows the female equivalent of me... and is lulzy enough to post as a side note: http://buttersafe.com/2007/08/23/watermelon/

That was hilarious...

After about 30 mins I got to 15 or 16, I forget which it was...and that one took me 30 mins to get through because it went from a slow thinking pace to a "HURRY THE CRAP UP AND MOVE OR YOU'RE GONNA DIE!!!"

Although I may enjoy TF2 more If I were doing professional reviews the original Portal is about the only modern game I can think of that might get a ten from me. I even rated it avatar worthy. That's unusual for a guy who doesn't even like wearing t-shirts with words/images on them. The only flaw I can think of is lack of replay value but then Portal was mega cheap in the Orange Box so it has no flaw I can discern. It is fairly short but it feels like it does what it supposed to and leaves you wanting more before resorting to rehashing mechanics for filler. IMO the sequel will have tough shoes to fill with a bar that high. I expect a longer more fleshed out experience but at the cost of the plot succinctness that was the original Portal. I think the sequel will probably be technically superior to the first just not as much of that original, stand alone, classic feel of the first game.

Original Portal designer Kim Swift, however, has left Valve to join Airtight Games.
Uh oh hope he wasn't the key guy. It's Valve though I really don't see them screwing it up.

From Tek's Wiki said:
Four days prior to the game's official announcement on March 5, 2010, a patch was released for Portal. The patch included an additional achievement, "Transmission Received", requiring the player to manipulate the in-game radios in an appropriate manner. This revealed new sound effects that became part of an alternate reality game-style analysis by fans of the game;[28] the effects included Morse code strings that implied the restarting of a computer system, and SSTV images from a grainy Aperture Science video. These images embedded further hints of a BBS phone number that when accessed, provided a large number of ASCII-based images relating to Portal and segments of fictional documents for Aperture Science; many of these ASCII pictures were published art assets for the game as shown in the Game Informer reveal of the title.[3] A second patch two days later altered the game's original ending to suggest Chell's current fate, with additional digital files and resources to further the alternate reality game.

They patched the ending of Portal 1 to leave it open to a sequel after the fact :( ? I didn't notice that when they did it. That wasn't necessary the first game left opportunities for a sequel already while still feeling like a complete game and in no way needed a cliffhanger to compel you to buy/play a sequel. It was like the first Prince of Persia: Sands of Time which you could play and be happy with it by itself without having to slog through the horrid, horrid, HORRID second one (let me emphasize compared to the first game it is HORRID) which I refuse to think about as a sequel.

Anyway here are the gametrailer links to E3 Portal videos. It looks brain teasing good but you can't really hear much of Gladdos' comments as yet (maybe deliberate on Valve's part to keep them secret?).

If anyone is interested in more Portal levels, I'd recommend Portal: Prelude. You can read Planet Half-Life's review of the mod here. The levels I played certainly didn't feel like a "rehash," but I agree with Gerbil's opinion that Portal ended before it started feeling repetitive (a claim I wish I could make for Trine and hope to see addressed in Trine 2).

I read the news at the time, but I haven't re-installed the game to replay the ending. I'll likely just look up the new ending on YouTube rather than re-install the game and dig through my archives for a save game file.

That makes me want to play The Munchables for the Wii again. Right now.

I believe that's a wholly appropriate response.

Okay, officially beat portal now...play time roughly 2 hours...but it was one of the best 2 hours I have ever spent on my computer :D

Ditto :p . I've watched a number of game play throughs that way. It's an easy way to kill all interest in games I know I don't have time for :) .

Clarifying my Portal comments I just can't rate a sequel as high as it's predecessor if it requires you to have played the first to feel you know everything (and I already know it does from the E3 vids). It's like the Empire Strikes Back which requires you to watch another movie to understand it. I expect Portal 2 to rate a 9 to the original's 10 which is by no means bad. It's the only game I currently plan to buy.

Dude 2 hours??? T_T you're making us all look bad. I think I took 6 but I don't remember for sure. I did take my time and could have shaved off some if ran through it but to do it in 2 hours the first time T_T. Go beat the test room challenges now smarty pants!

I didn't really rush it, but puzzle games are kinda easy for me...and it also helped to have my wife watching and sometimes helping me with ideas :)

But Empire Strikes Back was one of the best movies of all time, you can't really use that as an example...
