January 8, 2009 — THQ Inc. today announced plans to release a multiplayer beta for Warhammer® 40,000™: Dawn of War® II, the award winning Real-time strategy (RTS) game from Relic Entertainment.

The beta will be hosted via Steam and offered exclusively to Warhammer® 40,000™: Dawn of War - Soulstorm owners on January 21, followed by a worldwide public release on January 28. The beta will feature all four playable races, five multiplayer maps, and Microsoft’s Games for Windows - LIVE TrueSkill Matchmaking.

I think I read also that the beta comes out a week later for everyone else. I'm gonna give it a shot though since RA3 was underwhelming, demo-wise.
 
I'm downloading the Dawn of War 2 beta now. I noticed Elader playing it on Steam, checked the My Games section of Steam, and found it was available for download one day earlier than originally scheduled.
 
Downloading the beta now. Hopefully, I can try it out tomorrow night and see how it runs on my computer.

(Please, please let their be a Librarian unit on the Space Marines.)
 
Well, I'm sad to say that I have to use the Low graphics preset to play the game at a decent framerate. :( Just one more reason to look forward to the distant day when I can afford to build a new desktop gaming rig. Fortunately, the game still looks great on the Low graphics preset.

Okay, now let's get to posting our Windows Live gamertags. Mine is GummyZergling. Send me a friend request and I'll add you to my list.

(I really wish they'd just used Steam Friends for games instead of the bulky and awkward Windows Live system, but I suppose we'll have to deal.)

There's a sale on STEAM right now, buy the game for under 8 bucks, get into the beta. Gogogogo!
 
Actually, I just bought the game instead of going to the theaters. And with a name like Keerosene, methinks I will enjoy the SoB with all their flames.

My games for windows gamertag is Regatar. I must admit, I hate Games for Windows Live, I tried to make a profile with my usual name Sarugon, but the dumb thing messed up and now I can't reuse the name, even though when other people search for the name, nothing comes up. So I had to use an old name from WoW, But other than that, DoW2 seems really fun so far.

Does that mean you all need a Tyranid player to mix things up? Because if I did stick with this game, that's probably the way I'd go (which is no surprise at all, given my fondness for playing as the Zerg in Starcraft).

Zerganids it is! And I have found my favorite commander.

The SPIDAR ELDAR.

Seriously, teleporting is so much fun in this game. I'm more of a ninja capper now. And while the guy dies quickly and is fairly weak, he's a better supporter than the female commander. AoE laser shield, Snares, the IMBA Stasis Field. I'm tellin' ya, Eldar can kick some butt. Throw in some Banshee amazon warrior elves, and you got yourself some potent stuff.
 
Well I gave in and picked up Soulstorm. Assuming the campus network can stay stable long enough for me to download it, I should be joining you guys this weekend. I think I already have a GFW ID and it should be Shadetaker.
