So overall, everything I've read pretty much maligns tradeskills in WAR ... but with my expectations set so low I'm actually pretty impressed by what I've seen so far. WARDB lists something like 250 cultivating mats to date ... and while a number of them are dupes or grays, that's a lot! Also, I get the impression that tradeskills are more intertwined than in WoW ... e.g. you'll need to buy/barter salvaged stuff to do cultivating/alchemy, cultivated stuff to do talisman-making, etc and not just on rare occasions but relatively often. But that's just an impression so maybe I'm wrong.
Anyhow, I have Gilgabear doing cultivating/alchemy, and so far I've discovered that:
1) The process of just putting a seed in the pot, letting it grow, then harvesting in 3 minutes is pretty smooth
-- You CAN add soil/water/nutrient during respective stages but don't have to in order to grow something
-- Most times I've gotten a skill point, even with just level 1 spores and seeds ... I'm in the mid-teens now
-- If you get a crit, then you get your seed back to use again
-- you can plant a seed, fight some mobs, and your plant will grow fine in the meantime. So while it does require a fair amount of interaction (e.g. you can't queue 10 things to be grown), at least you can sorta multitask with it
2) Bag space seems like it's going to be a issue because there are so many different spores and seeds (and then plants that come out of them)
3) I got a short-stemmed elvish parsely seed from some quest, and that seed which took a surprising 10 minutes to grow. So apparently there are some variable times on how long it takes to grow
4) I did soil/water/nutrient once but since it didn't automatically pop out an epic herb, I didn't try it again. Requires more study.
5) Unlike the WoW "work backwards" system where you get a recipe and then work to "fill in the slots" to make that recipe, this is a much more "find the ingredients, mix 'em up, and see if the recipe is worth keeping" approach. For now, while it's undiscovered, it's fun ... I wonder though if it'll all be reduced to tables on fansites in a few weeks.
Anyhow, anyone figure out anything interesting?
