Cataclysm Raid Progression Refinements

We're designing and balancing raids so that the difficulty between 10- and 25-player versions of each difficulty will be as close as possible to each other as we can achieve. That closeness in difficulty also means that we'll have bosses dropping the same items in 10- and 25-player raids of each difficulty.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Obviously, there still needs to be a reason for 25-man raids, so:

We of course recognize the logistical realities of organizing larger groups of people, so while the loot quality will not change, 25-player versions will drop a higher quantity of loot per player (items, but also badges, and even gold), making it a more efficient route if you're able to gather the people.

so u are going to be locked out on 25 man if you do a 10 man from what I raid? that is going to tack people off. I am wondering if blizz is trying to push some people towards sc2 or dib 3

Personally I like this change, however I can see some hardcore groups being upset by this.

Certainly, but really only because they don't want "scrubs" getting the same items they are.

Heroic mode is still hard, that's where they can get their prestige items from. :D

Very very true

I just think Blizzard realizes that 10 mans are extremely popular and thats where most raid. I can't read the link at work here so can't say if that means you are locked out of 25 man as well.

They can probably see the server usage information and see that most guilds aren't able to get 25 players together on a repeating basis to actually complete the 25-man content, so they're making it feasible for smaller groups to be able to achieve the same things.

I've not raided any significant amount in LK, but doesn't it get confusing whether gear drops from a 10- or 25-player environment, if the boss names are the same? Simplify the process! Just make it the same gear drops, but better overall rewards for the hard-to-form group (25), and let heroic mode drops cover the rest.

I applaud Blizz for making more end-game gear and content available to the slightly-above-average player BEFORE the next expansion hits. It's no fun to go back and raid MC, BWL, or even Gruul now...it'd be nice to see the VOA, Naxx, or even the ICC stuff before we move into Cataclysm.

The lockout will be on a boss-by-boss basis.

So if you take out Gronn-Knight Var'kish and Yam-lord Umbra on 10-man, you can still jump into a 25-man raid to take on Hemet Nesingwary and The Shadow Nose.

If your 25-man team wipes on The Shadow Nose, you can get your small elite 10-man task force and take him down on 10.

I should mention, it makes no sense for Blizzard to push people towards their other games. Since WoW is subscription-based, it makes sense for Blizzard to push for both/and, not either/or.

Case in point: the SC2 collector's edition contains a rare WoW pet.
