Let me understand this correctly:
Are you saying that the infidels article may be factual and correct?

[b said:Quote[/b] ]Then why flippantly disregard every article that speaks against Strobel's works?
[b said:Quote[/b] ]Heck iam a Christian and am not a big fan of Strobel, just my two cents.
[b said:Quote[/b] ]Nothing has ever happened .01 times.
[b said:Quote[/b] ]Uh, yes I understand that Rithkil. I'm afraid it is you who are the one that is not understanding..
Take this for example...the chance of tripping on a certain rock is, say, .01 out of 10. This is the same as .1 out of 100, or 1 out of 1000. Mathamatically equivilant. Now, you say that nothing as ever happened that had that small of a probability... Um, what exactly are you basing that on?
[b said:Quote[/b] ].01 is 1%
While a small percentage, it is still a percentage of possibility.
You want a better example?
Look at the odds of winning the lottery. VERY long odds indeed, but people win, don't they?
[b said:Quote[/b] ]Rithkil, let's look at what you said, ok?
"It is actually 0.01 chance in 10 to the 215th power probability that it would happen by chance."
CHANCE and PROBABILITY
The author is saying that there's an incredibly small chance here, a probability of something happening. Just like there is a chance and a probablility of you winning the lottery. The probability is in WINNING the lottery. Not the amount of times you've WON the lottery.
I don't think you understand the math behind what you're talking about.
PLEASE post a direct link to this number you keep talking about so we can look at it in context, maybe you'll understand then.
Ugh this is pointless. This really doesn't matter, the point is of miniscule importance. But Rithkil, you really, really are wrong here. I don't understand why you aren't understanding...but whatever. Let's move on.[b said:Quote[/b] (Rithkil @ Oct. 21 2004,5:45)][b said:Quote[/b] ]Uh, yes I understand that Rithkil. I don't think you understand. 0.01 would be 0.01%, not 1%. It is 0.01 out of one hundred. You guys are still thinking mathematically. It is NOT a percent. It is the amount of times it happens. You guys are changing it's meaning. Nothing can happen 0.01 times. You can't say "I've jumped up in the air 0.01 times!" That's IMPOSSIBLE.

You guys don't understand what I'm saying. It would be 0.01% not 1%, as the 0.01 is out of 100 not 1. It is not just a SMALL percentage, it is not even a COMPLETE percentage.
Nobody's won the lottery 0.01 times out of 100 have they? That's a better example.
[b said:Quote[/b] ] For the universe to be created by chance, it would be 0.01 chance in 10 to the 215th power chance. That is not a probability. I do understand the math I'm talking about. You don't understand what I mean.

[b said:Quote[/b] ]Sorry Rith, but you don't have a clue here.
A probability is the chance that a given event will occur. In your example, there is a 0.01 chance in 10 to the 215th power. THAT is a probability.
That means there's a CHANCE in it happening. Therefore, it is PROBABLE, not IMPOSSIBLE. If it were IMPOSSIBLE, there would be NO chance for it to happen.
What you are TRYING to say is that the chance is so minute, that it might as well be impossible. However nice that sounds, it's not CORRECT. Since there is a chance, however small, in this case 0.01 chance in 10 to the 215th power, there is still a PROBABILITY of it happening.
Don't make this harder than it needs to be!
