It was announced today that Canada is now prepared to help the U.S. in its fight against war. They have promised to commit two of their battleships, 6,000 armed troops, and 600 fighter jets. However, after the Exchange Rate, that comes down to a Canoe, 2 Mounties and a Flying squirrel.

Oh I see. So the Yanks are attacking us like we're French now eh? Doesn't surprise me. We should be supporting you anyway. Canadian polls are showing 48% of citizens are opposed to the war. This puts our government in a very awkward position. Right now they've got two choices.

a) Follow the tried and tested political vote gaining law of Demagoguery and pledge support

b) Continue trying to prove to the world that Canada is it's moral epicentre.

Oh come on, the Americans and the Canadians have been making fun of each other for a long time. Besides, you have lots of things better than us. Hockey skillz for one....
 
Heh. The Americans are catching up in hockey because, unlike here, Americans put tons of money into sports programs.

This one just caught my eye. Go to www.avroarrow.org and then look at American fighters. Then come an talk to me about Canadian aviation. Do you have any idea as to where those engineers went?
 
I don't have anything against Canada but CCGR, that is stinkin' hilarious!

Some else mentioned though, is Canada really committing, or was the whole thing a joke?
 
A joke. Besides, all of our war canoes are tied up right now ;).

This IS an April Fool's joke, right? If not, Chretien's not getting my vote. He's been keeping my vote thus far, but if his spine collapsed, I'm voting NDP.
 
I'm probably voting Alliance. NDP is way too left-wing for me (which makes sense considering I'm a right-winger). As it stands though, the Liberals are a vote-gaining powerhouse.

Canada's relations with the US are going to be hurt by not supporting them, you are aware of this aren't you? I hope Chretien changes his mind very soon! I mean we're already escorting ships in the Gulf anyway. All the US wants is someone who says "we're with you" whether you've got troops to commit or not. Iceland doesn't even have a military, but they're showing their support.
 
CAPITALIST PIGDOG!!! (kudos for anyone that knows where the word 'pigdog' came from). ALLIANCE SUCKS!!! I'm a hardcore socialist, bent on paying taxes to help those people that are sick and needy, and for the govt's stupid make-work projects where we lose 400 m,illion dollars (BC Fast Ferries) and YOU CAN'T STOP ME!! BWAHAHAHAH.
 
Heh.  Funny thing is, hardcore socialists are that way only when living in a capitalist country in their big house with all their money.  Want to know what life is like when far left-wing systems are implemented?  Talk to my dad and most of his side of my family.  They escaped the Soviet Union. Yes, it was "Communist", but socialism is not very far off, and by "hardcore" you mean more left-wing yes?
