Amnesty is Comming

Here's an interesting link all you "OMG-GUARD-THE-BOARDER-WITH-SHOTGUNS-AND-BUILD-A-GIANT-WALL" people.

How would you feel if you lived in an area where people can barely get jobs because the market is overpopulated? Yet illegals are packed into vans driving around and we have no power to do anything about them.

My girlfriend knew a couple who were here illegally from Mexico. Contrary to their American counterparts, they were thankful for every minute they had in this country. They were ALWAYS working hard, and thankful for it every minute. They never complained and always wore a smile on their face.

Yesterday, they were pulled over by a cop, and now are being detained in a state prison. Chances are that they will be there for two months, doing nothing, until they are finally released (back to Mexico). During this two months, they will probably undergo harsh torture, anything from beatings to sexual abuse -- one of the two is a woman. This is unjust and devilish. These things happen to them because, "Hey, they aren't citizens. They have no rights."

It makes me sick to hear people say, "All the illegal immigrants are taking our jobs," when there is the option in this country to GO TO SCHOOL! You can get a college degree and get a good job, one that has ZERO competition with illegal immigrants. As the article I posted said, less than ten percent of illegal immigrants have sent their students to public schools. In addition, Americans are lazy. Yes, that's right, LAZY. I've seen it spread like an uncontrollable plague in my generation. People have this incredible opportunity to do well in school or to work hard at their jobs, but they don't. Why? They are lazy. They don't deserve the jobs in the first place.

It makes me even more sick to know that people get more riled up over illegal immigration (innocent people trying to make a living) than they do abortion, the state of the country's education system, broken families, the sexualization of society, drugs, drug trafficking, gambling, and any of thousands of other plagues that are reeking havoc on this nation. IT MAKES ME SICK!

And yes, it is late. And yes, this post isn't the best organized and it's not going to win any prize. I just spent the last three hours consoling my girlfriend because she so afraid for these two friends of hers. Like she said, "Across the street there are convicted sex offenders. They've done something wrong and yet are allowed to live their lives normally. Here are these two people just trying to make a living. What have they done wrong? Nothing. And what will happen to them? ... *cries*"

Ah yes, just because someone decides to stick up a tent in your yard means that they have a right to live there. Breaking the laws is breaking the laws. You can't use the ends to justify the means. It's like saying someone shouldn't be punished for robbing a bank, because they were poor and now they have to serve several years in jail.

Just because someone is lazy doesn't mean you have a right to go over and walk off with their lawn mower and car.

Yes... what did they do wrong...
Are these two friends here illegally?

Sigh... not trying to stir up debate again, but, I think people need to know that amnesty is once again being preposed in the "Dream Act". The Dream act is actually worse than the previous measure as it is not a comprehensive bill. Meaning it offers no increased security with amnesty. It also allows illegal aliens to receive in-state tuition rates at public universities, discriminating against U.S. citizens from out of state and legal foreign students. It repeals a 1996 federal law that prohibits any state from offering in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens unless the state also offers in-state tuition rates to all U.S. citizens. A quick google http://www.heritage.org/Research/Immigration/bg2069.cfm .

Besides breaking the law? Come on, tj. Anti-illegals may make you sick with their comments, but (and I say this with as much respect as I could muster) comments liek this that sympathize with them so much make ME sick.

Are you not aware of all the trouble they cause? They DO steal jobs from honest Americans. They DO cause trouble. They ARE doing something wrong because they break the law. I don't give a care if they can't make a decent living in Mexico, they have no right to walk all over and do whatever they want. It's just not how it goes.

Peace Guys

It's really hard to tell, but, in case anyone is riled up over this I just wanted to say that was not my intention. I was just tying to inform people that this was going on as the media is if-y about facts and to discuss constructive ideas about it. I'd hate to see anyone get angry because of it because I like all you guys regardless of stance on the issue :). I do this on a lot of other topical issues too, illegal immigration is not special.

To stress once again I am not unsympathic to the people in Mexico. I just don't believe the bills proposed so far do anything to solve the problem in any reasonable manner.

Okay, constructive is good. Let's construct a wall on the border with Mexico and ship the rest of the illegals over the border where they finally won't be able to sneak back over.

Whoa, buddy, let's calm down. Please. You wouldn't want Kidan to brandish the Staff of Mighty Moderator Rights, would you?

</levity>

Seriously, though, we all need to keep our cool. I know this is a controversial subject, but there's no reason we can't stick to civilized debate.

C$ brings up a very valid point - the illegals really are taking jobs away from honest, hard-working Americans. My uncle has run a painting company in southern Florida for 20 years. He can barely find work anymore because the illegals are willing to work for so much less (since they don't pay insurance, taxes, healthcare, they don't need to make as much)

This is why I said on the first page of this thread: If you grant amnesty to the illegals, then companies have to hire them on the books and pay them minimum wage, which means that they then have no special incentive to hire them, and the job goes to the worker who merits it, which is what capitalism is about.
