I think we should stop calling illegal immigrants criminals. Sure, they're breaking the law, but the title of a criminal is hardly deserved imho.
Furthermore, how exactly did the Europeans gain all the property from the Indians back when we first 'invested' the land in the United States? Oh yeah, we killed them. Don't act like this is a one sided argument, here. And don't say we regret it either; I think that would be a lie.
I'm not trying to side with any particular group. I just think we need to be fair in what we have to say.
By definition if you are breaking the law you are committing a crime thus you are a criminal. Technically we could be all be called criminals in the sight of God since we have broken his law, but, I digress. I think your idea is that with the title of criminal comes some dishonor, but, it is this very stigma that is supposed to be a deterrent to people. By removing the stigma you would be encouraging continued illegal immigration saying "it's not so bad". It would be like not calling people, including ourselves, sinners. It isn't supposed to be a pretty or good thing. I know there are some people in need among the illegal immigrants just trying to survive, but, the guy who steals your car may have needed it to survive just as well as the guy who immigrates illegally, both are criminals. Be aware too that one of the complaints about illegal immigration is all the other criminal activity that comes with it too, drug dealing, robbery and murder have been some of the examples I've seen.
As to comparing the American Indians/Settler conflict to the current illegal immigration crisis I don't think it is apt. One is a past event the other is a current and ongoing one. If we are going to bring up past events everyone has a criminal in there lineage and we would all be fighting each other forever. Which is pretty much one way of defining Hell, but, I digress again. The Indians had fights between themselves long before we came too. Which Indian was first? Which one should we give American to? Whatever one you pick his ancestors committed crimes too and his and hers and so on all the way back to Adam. The difference is we seek to punish current criminals not for justice (because that can only be served by God), but, to prevent the crime, actually in progress, occurring and to deter future ones by that example saying "we can and will punish you if you do X". In addition, but, not to get into it to deep, a lot of American was purchased legally from the Indians although I'm sure at bargain prices.
Also what do you guys think about the idea of giving citizenship to those who would serve in our military for a few years? I think it's a good idea it's just too bad it's tacked on to such a inferior bill, politicians blech.
And people please don't abuse Bowser for being slightly PC. He was respectful in his statement. Afford him the same dignity. Gerbil sleep now, later ZZZzzz
