A discouragement, but also a motivator.

Nah i wasnt in it, but a few friends of mine were.
The first scene is where he kills Rauck, the warrior in white who happens to be a friend Timert and I met many months ago. We're still pretty good in-game buddies, and he's leader of the guild The Holy Brotherhood.

Afterwards he also kills the all-feared Niffty of the Holicron Knights.

The times he ganked me weren't that impressive, come to think of it. I made the fights very very non-flashy, so he probably didn't bother put ganking me in his videos.

First time was when I just got my epic mount and was leveling my mining skill in Southshore. All of a sudden I get shadowbolted and feared, and it was more of a chase than a fight...
It was quiiite a long "battle", actually. I swung at him a few times, but ended up running for a few minutes only to still get killed just outside of Southshore. Needless to say, back then I was severely outgeared with a poor pvp spec. It was also when I started not liking shadow priests.

The second time was in Searing Gorge, with my pvp gear and TuF. I tried to play a mana war and just cast flash of light the whole time. Didn't work. I ran outta mana waaaaaaaaayy before he did.

Ive killed him in STV a few times. One night he was being nice, healing himself on the road infront of Gurubashi Arena... over and over and over. Then he attacked me and i killed him, a lowbie guildie was with me... forgot who it was. He isnt that hard with my felhunter out. But he lasts quite a while too.... and he runs fast

Beckon is a laugh to the Uber PvP people.

He eats up lowbies and undergeared folks.

He does not enter fair fights with high ranking PvPers.

Thats why i really wanna take im down :D

The reason I wanna kill him isnt the good fight, but rather...

THE NAME.

Sure, the uber pvpers know he's a djork (I mean, I was just mining stuff in SS with greens and a few blues that time T_T). But, most people aren't uber pvpers, so this guy's simple reputation among the majority is what I'm MAINLY aiming at. Even without much skill with his gear Beckon is a pretty tough match for me, as priests are probably my main dead-match.
Speaking of which, I need to try your hand at a duel Iccy :D

Reminds me of the Three Kingdoms era in China.
Under the original tyrant Dong Zhuo, there was a warrior named Lu Bu that everyone feared. Historical texts have indicated that he really isn't that tough as he never really killed any big figures; Guan Yu was the one who did. But! That didn't take away from the fact that everyone feared Lu Bu for the first decade. Henceforth, killing Lu Bu in view of a million people would have been bigger news than killing Guan Yu, even though Guan Yu was by far the more powerful.

Your aimed shot crits beckon for 2983, Beckon dies. He's not hard at all he's just over geared in shadow, and his racial ability takes advantage of it. You put any bwl geared warrior/warlock against Beckon and he'll loose.

Gives me a good indication of what a shadow priest can do and damage numbers I can hope to achieve when I hit 60 and get purples.

And when on earth can a paladin do something remotely similar to that kind of damage!? Even when I was ret specced with full AP and crit gear I could NEVER get beyond 2k and even the 2k crits were once every 20-30 swings.:(

Taking a priest isnt so simple for a paladin. That's why I still think this rivalry is a worthy endeavor.

Fear, mana burn, mana burn, shield, mana burn, mana burn. gg. Without mana we're just as easily cc'ed as a regular level 60 mob.

Unless we get insanely lucky with crits and procs (with a purgable seal of command), there is no way a pally can take out a well-geared priest (shadow or not) by outlasting their mana. That means only mega burst dps will do the trick, and that just so happens to be the paladin's weak point.
I'm still thinking about how i can potentially counter that...

Last night I dueled 3 different priests several times. The first priest didn't look like he was shadow, and apparently didn't fight paladins much so I managed to beat him the first 2 times just by running at him and autoattacking. Then, he learned to use MANA BURN and I lost every fight since then.
Second priest I fought did mana burn first, and I lost that fight very very quickly.
Third priest. I was actually close this time, but only by luck. Fear, mana burn, mana burn. I stun him, divine favor + heal, judge command, holy shock, swing+proc. I happen to crit and knock him down to 20%. Then he shields, turns off shadow form, and heals back to full. Mana burn, gg.

May i state that klangdon never hits for over 2000k damage (even with AP)? Paladins strongest point - they cannot be held in one spot. Paladins are very tough for mages. If they sheep you, you get full mana and regen health. Everyclass has a another class that they cannot beat. Priests kill klangdon quite well also.

I don't have a lot of +dmg gear. In shadow form, my mindblast will hit for 700-900, netting crits near 1200 on average. If I get a berserker buff, my damage gets a bit higher. I wouldn't mind trying a disc\holy pvp build someday. I know I can up damage 10% and crit chance to upto 15% with talents alone and then hit power infusion for some +20% damage fun. That damage would come close to my shadowform damage.

Aye, agreed that priests are perhaps the paladin's main unbeatable class.
But paladins can be held in one spot if they have no mana, which is exactly what priests make happen :)
What melko does is just nuke me and force me to shield and heal with his finger on the counterspell button everytime he sees my hands glow. I have yet to try this, but I should attempt to stay waaaaay back and war of attrition him until he's outta mana.

My damage now rarely ever gets over 1k (with a proc, judgment of command, AND holy shock) now that I've respecced holy, even though my heals and control over damage is improved.
The 2k crit I mentioned, by statistical rule, has a 1.6% chance of happening with a 20% chance to crit with my epic hammer. And 2k is the combined damage of the proc and the hit, not a single hit, in addition to requiring vengeance to proc the swing before, making the chance even less.
Melko regularly hits me chains of 600; 3 in a row sometimes, often more.
Approximately 50% of the time, however, I hit in a single hit of 300.

Also...how much +spell damage (mage equivalent of AP in a sense) does klangdon have, and how much % crit? Last time I saw his gear he was still running around in greens and blues, while Azzie is now half epicced out. Osyris, on the other hand...

What I'm thinking about is figuring out a way to CC the priest which may mean speccing back into retribution. If I can grenade, stun, repentance, and MIND CONTROL the priest every time he attempts to cast mana burn,I might just be able to pack enough damage before he can shield and heal...

EDIT: 2k damage with retribution specced Azzie is at 0.032% chance, as vengeance is necessary from a prior hit that crits to increase the damage to 2k. Otherwise, it's actually only 1400ish.

AP is Attack Power. The more AP, the more damage per swing.

Suggestions for priests.
  • Limit the effect of their major damage school with Shadow Resist Aura and Shadow Resist Gear
  • Fighting healing classes with a paladin always seems to be a war of attrition. +mana/5 gear, Blessing of Wisdom along with Seal and Judgement of Wisdom to outlast their mana pool
  • Invest in an Ultra-Flash Shadow Reflector
  • Mind Flay, Shadow Word Pain and Devouring plague can and should be cleansed
  • Invest in holy tree to get resistance to fear
  • Invest in trinkets like Mark of Resolution and Insignia of the Alliance

Oo, i'll look into those, Sensei. The shadow reflector looks good...:)

But my main problem is always mana burn. On average, a level 60 priest will have much, much more mana than I do. Seal and Blessing of wisdom are purgable by priests, and judgment of wisdom can be removed by a priest as well.

Additionally, now the holy damage output of a priest can be just as potent as their shadow tree, if not more so.

Any further suggestions sensei??? :(
