What if one has a set of beliefs first and then finds a religion which closely follows those beliefs, would that then continue to be a belief system or a religion?
It's not valid to an Atheist, and may not hold up to the scrutiny of the "scientific method", but to the other person it is valid and is part of what may define him/her. Why should it be something to be scrutinized and torn down by those who do not see the logic and reason behind it. T
However, what may seem logical and reasonable to you may not be so for someone else and vice versa. Does that mean that it is not valid? That it has no merit at all?
Many people use the terms "religion" and "belief system" almost interchangeably.
There IS some overlap between a religion and a belief system; as each person may believe certain concepts, even in a well- defined religious system, that are unique to him/her.
There are those who think they must always persuade, lie or brainwash to get people to believe the way do and then there are those who know what they believe and why and that is enough. They do not try to make anyone else believe the same way.
There will always be people who don't agree. But from my stand point, no one should have to justify or defend the logic or reason behind their belief system.
