I'm not sure about farming them elsewhere. I prefer Orr due to the abundance of events and people. With event farming, the more people involved, the more loot and thus the higher yield of rares and ectos.

If you ever want advice in ecto farming, find me online some night and I'll take you on my route and give you some pointers on Orr farming. Sometimes I can get as many as 10 ectos and a couple gold in a few hours (which would be like 6 more ectos).

Either works fine ... depends on your preference. However, if you go melee (D/X) be careful of using death blossom on any sort of structure. You'll go flying off sometimes even with preparation. All it takes it a slight shift in position of the mob.

You play a thief (not sure if other class) and thieves only use F1 for stealing ... nothing else. Other professions can use F1-F4. For example Mesmers have their shatters, Elementalists use them to switch attunements, etc.
