Elementalist PVE Build

I finally found an Ele build where i can stay alive,do fairly decent damage,give buffs and remove conditions from me and allies.
i tryed it out earlier (lacking 15 trait points due to being Lv65) and i was able to solo a veteran and constantly keep my health up.
so i wanted to share the build incase anyone else is struggling with keeping their Ele alive long enough to Lv up.
(at bottom of build there will be a build link and a video showing where i got it from and you can decided for yourself if you like it)
enjoy!

I tryed this build out in WvW last night in Eternal Battlegrounds Jumping Puzzle.

first test vs. a guardian and a thief;
i downed the thief and the guardian ran away jumping off the ledge.

second test 1v1 against a guardian;
after a 5-6 minute fight (that seemed like an hour) he backed up,bowed and ran away.

although this build is working great for me;
i must say that guardian gave me a great challenge and i was impressed with his/her skills.

I've been playing around with this a little, too. Haven't had much play time recently to really get into it, though.

DaPhoenix, the author of the YouTube video you linked, has a very extensive guide on the official forums. https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/professions/elementalist/Guide-Mastering-the-D-D-ele-12-20-12

There's thorough discussion of it as well that runs to 9 pages.

I've been wondering how everyone is feeling about Elementalists at the moment. We seem to have regular discussion covering Rangers, Guardians, Thieves and Mesmers. Seen plenty of LoE running Engineer as well. Not much chat about Eles, though.

That 0/10/0/30/30 build seems to be pretty close to standard for Eles right now, if the forum chatter (both guru and official) are any indication. Some variations, but 20 Water and 20 Arcane seem to be must-haves in the current meta. According to the forums, that same trait spread works decently for Staff as well (with a few trait swaps, Blasting Staff being the big one). I'm guessing that's why it is so popular, because you can WvW roam, then switch to keep defense without retraiting. Or level in PvE, and switch to staff for Champs. D/D dungeons, then switch to staff for Bosses.

The Ele forums also seem to be very twitchy about ANets recent noises regarding adjustments to AoE.

i am 2 trait points away from having the build complete (Lv78) and i love it...works great in PVE and dungeons so far.
i like the mobility of the build..i was actually surprised at a close range dagger/dagger build where you can jump in and out of combat,heal on dodge's.
hope they never nerf this..even if im not 100% unstoppable, it is so much fun to play lol

That's almost exactly what I run on my ele. Right now I have 0 15 0 25 30. It seems to work rather well. It can be fun to play as well. Also you have almost non-stop boons which is great. I liked the extra kick in precision, but it might be personal preference.

According to DaPhoenix, this works just as well with Staff, but I'm not so sure.

I've been running 0/10/0/30/30 D/D out in the open world, and loving it. I tear through even Orrian Vets solo, and can zip around the world largely ignoring anything I'm not interested in. I'm in full exotic weapons, armor, and amulet, and my survivability is so good I've been slotting zerker jewelry because it doesn't seem like I need any more toughness.

For the world bosses, I've been switching to staff for the distance (and ability to tag trash mobs before they get zerged down almost instantaneously). I feel like I hit like a wet noodle and have no durability, though. Could be that I just haven't figured out how to work the staff abilities right to keep me in boons like the D/D does.

Waynos, you said it works great in dungeons. Are you sticking with D/D through dungeons? Or do you switch out to staff for boss fights?

Maybe I just need to get over my fear of getting one-shotted in boss fights and get in there to short range with D/D.

same here; i use staff for world bosses (shatterer,shadow behemoth,jormag,tequatl etc..)
and im running 0/0/10/30/30 and with dual daggers i solo groups of enemies in cursed shore
this style of play is not only working great for almost anything but i find it really fun lol

as far as dungeons go ill staff a boss unless it has lots of adds then ill attack it kind of like a thief would (zoom in drop AOE and zoom out) until the boss is down
also i've noticed switching to water reduces my damage output but helps keep my teammates alive in hard battles..gotta say i really love elementalist lol

I'm loving Ele, too.

I'm surprised how much damage water #2 actually does in D/D while providing decent healing as well.

I guess the thing with staff is to remember how effective those combo fields can be. #5 Air procs a lot of vulnerable with everyone shooting through it.

I think the difficult thing about staff ele is that your boons are often getting applied to your front line. Lay down fire, follow with blast, and area Might, but only for those who are in melee where you dropped your fire field. The staff ele doesn't personally get nearly the boons that a D/D ele does.

The place where I feel the wimpiness of staff most is in pre-event situations before those bosses. Like the Fire Elemental, for example. During the cleanup stage in the main chamber the mobs pop up really spread out and not very quickly. I can't get there fast enough on D/D before they are destroyed by the sheer number of people attacking. They are too spread out for AoE to be useful, which leaves Fire #3 when it's not on cooldown, and the rest of the time autoattack. When I can't get a Fire #3 off, I often don't seem to do enough damage with #1 to tag the mob before it dies.

I've read rumors that they are going to give scepter some love next patch. Just a rumor, but it'd be nice if they did.

Looks like you're using 10 Earth instead of Zephyr's boon. Do you miss the aura procs?

to be honest i never noticed them.
but i do lack one thing from that build
i am running power,toughness healing armor and the build calls for power,prec,toughness armor..maybe that change could enhance my damage output.
i also dont use consumables because im trying to save money for when my other toons hit 80 lol

Great write-up. Just so you guys know, we’re trying to bring down the cantrip Ele, while also being careful to let other Ele builds work. We don’t want to just take all Ele’s out of play, but we do need to bring a few things down (traits/skills) in efficacy.

Not that it's a big surprise, but there's official confirmation on the forum now that they are looking to nerf this build.
