different versions of Vista?

You break the law if you buy this product and are not a system builder.
A system builder is :
an original equipment manufacturer, assembler, refurbisher, or pre-installer of software.

here is the full fine print of what the license. Apparently you automatically accept this the second you open a OEM software package.

no you do not break the law..you do violate the EULA which have been successfully challenged in court. Guess where most of ms's money comes from? OEM copies whether sold through The Dells and the like or individuals taking advantage of this convenient loophole. With vista..buy only the upgrade versions..they are even cheaper and you can do an easy clean install with them..read my blog post linked above.

The only version you need to worry about with vista ree the upgrade versions. There's a well-documented upgrade hole with vista.

Unless you are using Leopard and want to bootcamp Vista. You cant use Vista upgrade or any multi-disk versions as there is no way to eject the disk while in the install program ;(

We get Vista Business Ultimate for $50 at work but I cant bootcamp it cause it only comes in a multi-disk media version.

vista comes on one dvd..no multidisk version for the upgrade dvd as it contains all of the versions.

Why exactly would anyone want vista? It drives me nuts whenever I have to work on a vista burdened machine.

The upgrade thing is pretty funny though, quality software...

I got that beat.....

go to MS, and signup to be a partner (free). Then look for the action pack. For about $200 you get 10 legitimate licenses of everything.

But yeah....vista is a pain. Everything is in different places, and half the software doesn't work. To bad you pretty much have to get it if you buy a new comp.

I am not going to get my new PC parts for another 6 months so Vista will probably be a little better by then. i just needed to know what the difference's were with both of the packages.

Not to be mean, but upgrading to Vista is the worst mistake anyone could make... Vista is a slew of problems and annoyance... Also, the "ping-of-death" works on it, so I would not touch it with a 10 foot poll...
