New year, new bump.

Let's do diss folks. :O Shall the deadline be... April 1st? Methinks yes. >=]

Bigger joke would not be getting our server by then. -.-

I'll see what I can come up with by Saturday.

That would indeed be sad. Of course, I didn't think it would take this long to select a colocation service this long after raising the funds, either. :(

I'll see what I can come up with by Saturday.
Awesome. Thank you. :)

I've sent quote requests to two places that I've heard of in Springfield, MO. (Absolutely no ulterior motives in finding a location here. Surely living 20 minutes from the data center wouldn't give me a huge ping advantage ;) ) Both are large underground facilities that specialize in data security and I'm skeptical that they will be a good deal for as small a customer as we'd be, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to check. I'll let you know the results.

Many thanks, sir.

I tried to get a quote from SpringNet Underground, but they didn't return any of my 3 calls. Maybe they'll like you better.

SpringNet gave me a call back this morning. He said he'd like to let us tour the facility before making a decision. The smallest space they offer is a 1/3rd cabinet which gives us more than 1u. That is $300 a month. We can have burst speeds up to 100mbps and we pay for a certain sustained speed. For what we want he suggested starting with a 1MB sustained speed for $350 a month and only go up from that if we need it. Power is 15 cents a kW/H. So total is at least $650 a month plus however much power adds up to. From what I saw in an earlier post, that is too expensive.

And the following reply came from the other place named 85 Under:

Thank you for your inquiry to 85Under. We would be happy to assist you with your data center needs.

Due to the features and security of the underground facility, we are often unable to compete with large server farms for low pricing. We don’t have the sheer volume of customers to allow for bottom line pricing on power, cooling, and bandwidth…but we are more of a specialized and customizable solutions provider. We offer 4 redundant bandwidth carriers and have the capability to burst up to 1 Gbps.

Our monthly fee for 10Mbps @ 95th percentile billing is $700/month. Is that something that is going to be in your budget along with the additional colocation charges?

p.s. we strictly monitor and enforce proper usage of the data center facility – no pornographic traffic or operations are allowed

thanks again and let me know if you would like to see a formal quote.

Even more expensive than SpringNet.

I'm really disappointed in my quote requests, I sent them over a week ago and have heard nothing back... if they are this slow on quotes it doesn't look good for service if we went with them.

I know we'd prefer unmetered, but how much realistically would we use?
It's hard to know until we actually have everything up and running.

Ideally, we'd be running 6-8 game servers and a web site from the same box.

Just saw this thread...I know there are a few datacenters here in the OKC area...I'll see what comes up.

Roger that.

OKC is a good central area. If you need any more details or have any questions, let me know and I'll do my best to answer.

I'll start the search again soon, maybe I can have my brothers help for the summer. :p

Roger that. As always, if you need any more info, just let me know.

/bump

Still need a solid set of quotes to help choose a datacenter.

Due to not wanting to give my phone number away, I can't do much for colocation. I can, however, look at different prices for renting a dedicated server. I saw that that seems to be one of the options. So ya, i'll try and get different prices for doing that :)
