Heaven

I go to his chapel 2 times a week along with 8,000 other believers.

He is a teacher and he teaches and backs it up.

I have not read very little ive read like 7 books. NOt 7 chapters! The bible is a compilation of many Books, not one book. Ive read hundreds of chapters!

I understand the bible, God isnt the bible....

There are 66 books in the bible. You have read 7. That is just about 11% of the Bible you have read. That is very little.

God is not the Bible, but the Bible is the word of God, is it not?

I understand the word of God, that doesnt mean I understand his reasons for why he does everything.

That is not very little, I have learned more of history and Life from them 7 books then I have learned from everything else combined.

This is what you just said, to paraphrase, that God likes keeping his creation from knowing about Him because he enjoys being mysterious.

THAT is what I am trying to say. You are following a mysterious God, someone that to your own admission, is impossible to understand. The only way you are sure you are following Him correctly is through a warm fuzzy feeling in your belly. You haven't even read then entire Bible yet you are SURE that you are correct in your assumptions about your impossible to understand God.

That is totally illogical!

The burden of proof is on the beleiver, not the unbeliever.

I would as the same question to someone claiming they believed in Darwinian Evolution.

Sigh, forget it Byblos.

Look, this thread is about the Christian view of Heaven. If you have something to contribute, fine, contribute, if you don't, then please don't participate.

I feel bad about getting angry at him.

I couldn't help it tho, my best friend is gay and he said it was wrong for them to marry.

I was too hasty.

If it is possible to salvage this thread, I put the following two views on heaven:
[b said:
Quote[/b] ]
It can be place where all your wants are fulfilled or a place where there are no wants.

A place where all wants are fulfilled is no kind of paradise. A land of limitless self-indulgence is hardly the kind of land a human being would want for enternity. Want to know something? Poof! you know it. Want that really cool game you wanted to try when alive? Poof! Served on a silver platter (I am paraphrasing her words).

In addition, as everyone has conflicting wants, it is impossible to have everyone's needs met in an ethical and fair way. Altogether this vision is nothing more than wishful thinking.

The second view, a land of no want, is no better. In desire and need do we define ourself. By having our desire for more, our lust for extra, for this and that, we have essentially become, to quote Silent Hill; "No this, no that, no nuthin'. A paradise, for castrated sheep maybe. Sounds pretty boring."

A human needs to need. Without need, something to aspire to and to work for, we are nothing more than animals.

from the essay I mentioned a while back.

Lets take this from the top again?

Well the reason I started this thread to was find out where all these ideas of heaven came from. The fluffy white cloud, St. Peter at the gate, strumming a harp, etc.

None of which are in the bible. This seems to be a lingering problem with Christianity, it borrows heavily from tradition and not necessarily from the Bible. Granted, I think this is most evident in Catholicism.

Catholicism isnt christianity, its a set of traditions, most are meaningless and borderline idolitry and complete blasphemy.

Well the harp thing I can tell ya some about that, In heaven the saints supposedly play music and sing to God.... If you want me to prove it then forget about it, but its in there.

::SIGH::

Byblos, Catholicism IS Christianity. I know you are offended by Catholicism, but saying doesn't make it true. Catholicism is as much a part of Christianity as Protestantism, Baptism or any of the other denominations. In fact, Catholicism is responsible for the state of Christianity today.

And please, PLEASE, if you're going to throw theories out there, please try and back it up. Saying it's somewhere in the Bible doesn't do anyone any good.

Catholicism is not christianity, they are not followers of christ in any way, they defy the bible as much as any religion or denomination.... If you believe that there is such things as denominations and are a part of one, you should alalyze your faith, there is ONE churrch not many little ones.

God is responsible not the sinners...

Its not a theory.. Its true, ok then.. why dont you go right on ahead and prove it wrong if it isnt true?

Fine, I will.

religioustolerance.org has compiled a list of Christian sects. Under that topic they list:

Four Meta-Groups that make up Christianity as Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant and Anglican.

Under Individual Denominations Roman Catholicism is listed.

Under families of Christian denominations Catholicism is listed under the Western Liturgical Family.

Under the evolution of Christianity we have this listing "1054 CE: A lengthy power struggle between eastern and western Christianity culminated in a schism between the Eastern Orthodox churches and the Western Rite (later often called the Roman Catholic Church)"

Under the size of religious groups in the US 76.5% (159 million) of Americans identify themselves as Christian. Of that 76.5%, 24.5% are Roman Catholic.

Under Roman Catholic Church:

We use the phrase "Roman Catholic" in place of "Catholic" to avoid confusion. Most Christian faith groups acknowledge the Nicene Creed and thus regard themselves as "Catholic," at least as far as being part of the "catholic and apostolic church." Within any one given faith group, the meaning of the term "Catholic" is relatively clear. But our site deals with all Christian denominations and all other religions. To assure clarity and to avoid ambiguity, we use the term "Roman Catholic" when referring to the church headed by the pope in Rome. We use similar terms (e.g. Evangelical Catholic, Anglo-Catholic) when referring to some other faith groups."

wow so theres lots?
Sins they all do
Making it mandatory that you pay them thithes.
Alot do not study the bible regularly as Ive went of alot of them.
They have priests who not only claim to be able to help with your sins, which is blasphemy as only jesus can help you there but they also request that you call them father and in mathew 20: something Jesus calls this blasphemy for there is only one to be called your religios father and he is in heaven.
Idolitry, Simple... Gold and lots of it, they put so much of their money into stained glass windows and golden crap, fancy robes and large hats. THat money was donated to God, not ot that stupid building they should use that money to feed the poor not make themselves look fancy.
