You know what I miss?

I miss ALGOL and punch cards.

No, not really. I do miss my marbles, though....

Has anybody seen my marbles?

lol - that explains a lot, Aleron.

I sometimes miss my first computer - cutting edge for 1983 - 640k RAM - 10 MEG hard drive (and I really thought - why would you ever need 10 meg of space) - and a portable (about the size of a large sewing machine) - with a 9" amber screen - loaded with Wordstar (anyone remember ^k and ^q) - Dbase II - and a few dos games - all for $1,800.

I always feel left out in these threads.. This is what I get for hanging out with.. not my age-ers..

:p

That was cheap!

It was cheap - a new Colorado start-up - Otrona - trying to get into the market. I loved that little machine.

*edit: wait...when you said, "That was cheap!" did you mean the price of the computer or, "that explains a lot, Aleron"?

"not my-agers" - Very diplomatic and politically correct. That is why you are our fearless leader.

I miss Game Discs (and carts) -- but not because of bugs or patches, but simply because digital games such as Steam can not be traded or resold.

We used to trade NES and Gameboy games in my neighborhood quite often, and the main way I ever got new games -- and still do, is by selling and trading my old ones.

My first was the PCjr. 64k of RAM & no hard drive. Used to play Populous, Fire Power (split-screen), and Silent Service.

My brother did get a TRS80 (with a tape drive) as a hand-me-down from a relative, but I think it was after we had the PCjr.

Oh noes not a Trash 80, please no, I hated those things, I had to write a program for those once. That was worse than debugging RPGII on a DEC system running an emulator.

It was a piece of junk. I think my brother messed with it more for the novelty of it than anything else.

I think we've officially found a thread for the small group of forum regulars older than me.

My first gaming system was a NES and my family's first computer was a 486DX/50MHz Dell. Good times, good times.

Now you are making me feel old, because I actually remember using most of the stuff mentioned.

My first system was an Atarii, and first computer Apple IIe, with 64k RAM and no hard drive, just a bunch of 5-1/4 in floppy disks to hold the programs.

Timex Sinclair? I was handed one of those things with a 16k Ram pack to program some basic on. I found making judicious use of rather large pixels I could make a very rough drawing. Hated that Ram pack, which was a necessary evil.
