Well, I have seen a lot of people here using Xfire so I figured why not join in... I loved all the wonderful features and figured this was a pretty cool program...until...I went to their about us page...

In April of 2006, Xfire was acquired by Viacom. Viacom is one of the leading global entertainment content companies, with prominent and respected brands in focused demographics. Offering programming and content for television, motion pictures and digital platforms, Viacom's world-class brands include MTV Networks (MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, Comedy Central, CMT: Country Music Television, Spike TV, TV Land, Logo and more than 120 networks around the world), BET Networks, Paramount Pictures, Paramount Home Entertainment, DreamWorks and Famous Music. More information about Viacom and its businesses is available at www.viacom.com.

Am I the only one really bothered by this?

I just never use it so there is no point to installing it.

Viacom shouldn't care too much about Xfire. They should be more concerned with MTV and all the TV stuff to care about an Instant Messaging program. the Xfire company is still going to work on Xfire. We should only see a change if Viacom decides to rambo and take over everything. But I'm sure they are more concerned about MTV.

I think Xion's concern is the possibility that some Viacom executive unfamiliar with how "hardcore" gamers (a significant portion of the Xfire user base) revile DRM or spyware will not see Xfire generating ridiculous profits and will tack on something that qualifies as malware to make a few bucks on the side. Unfortunately, it's not an entirely unrealistic scenario.
