Exactly as we thought they would, Microsoft’s announced the official base price for the Xbox 360 at $299, with a $399 version available (no surprise there either). The $299 version will come bare with a wired controller, while the $399 version will have a 20GB drive, wireless controller, headset, and remote. We’re still on the fence about forking the product to make it more affordable, but hey, not our company!

What doesn't make any sense to me is that they said wireless controllers would be standard....

Oh well, I guess I'll take the $399 model.

lol... i'm gonna try to get this thing on its release date. usually my parents make me wait because it is so expensive... lol. X_X

Wireless controllers for the X360 are going to be a mere $10 less than the games themselves...$49.99. Ouch.

Wireless controllers are going to be standard for all of the next-gen consoles, as far as I know. They should be, too. And considering that the best wireless controller available now (Logitech) costs $40 already, $49.99 isn't that huge of a jump.

Prices always go way up when next-gen consoles come out and this is no different. No one should be shocked. And honestly, $100 for a hardrive isn't too bad. It is so useful and the PS3 will once again not have it included.

I've always been a Playstation guy, but so far I'm more impressed with the X-Box 360.

ok, with the 299$ version, is their anyway to put a hard drive in it, just a regular one, or do you have to buy one just for x-box, or, do you just have to have a mem card for it? I cant wait for the 360 to come out, but, i cant spend 399$ on it . So, the 299$ is more for me, and i dont care if its a wired controller, thats fine. i dont have to have a remote, and i will just go out and by a headset, but, i am worried about the hard drive part of it.

A 20 GB HD (included in the $400 version) is $100, so you might as well get the $399 if you want a HD anyway. =/

Desktop hard drive or laptop hard drive? neither of which are $100, or even close, way cheaper both ways.

Desktop hard drive or laptop hard drive?

Console Hard Drive. Custom-made hard drive, mainly.

The PS2 also has a 20Gig hard with Final Fantasy Online on sale for $150.

Will the hard drive be for storage or enhancement of gameplay?

On the PS2's HD, when you play on-line, you can only play with other people that own HDs. You can't play with anyone else other than HD owners.

The drive built specifically for the Xbox 360.

Xbox 360 Hard Drive (20 GB). 20 GB and detachable, the hard drive allows gamers to store their games, music, downloaded trailers, levels, demos and community-created content from Xbox Live Marketplace and more (estimated retail price $99.99 U.S./€99.99/£69.99*).

The xbox didn't have a custom made hard drive, it used a 3.5" (i think?) hard drive that you could remove and replace with a bigger one. (Useful only if u have a modchip..bla bla bla)

Yeah, the Xbox had just a standard drive..I swapped mine out for an 80 GB I think. =)

Looks like the X 360 drive may be custom because of the connection...we'll have to wait and see.

I haven't tried out Logitech's wireless Xbox controller. I'm not too entirely sure the WaveBird can be dethroned though. After all, is force feedback really necessary?

Obviously, unless you aren't going to use Live!, you want the 400 dollar Premium Package. Here's the question though. If Microsoft upgrades the drive medium (HD-DVD, if the format ever takes off) later in Xbox 360's life as it has alluded to, will early-adopters of first generation systems have to buy an Xbox 360 all over again? Will they be able to replace only the drive? How much will it cost? I suppose this is several questions, and no, I don't expect anyone to have answers here. I just thought it was interesting to ponder for everyone considering a 360 purchase at or near launch.
