I read in a magazine that Microsoft is stopping
support for Win 98 from June 2003 so start
downloading some updated drivers for computer
parts Win 98 user's.

Thought I might tell you people.
 
We still have an active Win98 box in our house. July 4th it will be 5 years old.

Our company will also stop supporting Win98!!! Yeah!! As a developer, it's a pain having to write certain code for certain operating systems. And the problem is, a lot of these things are not discovered for a few months. Suddenly we'll get a bug report that such and such doesn't work. After we look into the problem and do some research, it turns out to be a difference in a call between Win9x and the NT platforms.
 
***grumble***  ....I guess its gonna be time for me to upgrade soon.

I'm still running Windows 95 on one of my computers at home.

1 - Windows 98SE (my main computer)
2 - Dual boot Windows 98SE/Windows 2000 (my wife's)
3 - Windows 95 (older computer used as a fileserver)
4 - FreeSCO (Old PC serving as my router/firewall)
5 - Mac OS 9.2.2 (my laptop)
6 - Mandrake....almost (computer I'm setting up linux on so I can learn Linux)

Maybe its time for me to upgrade my main computer to XP.  Anyone wanna send me a free copy???

Two of my computers are pre-windows 98 hardware.  FreeSCO only needs a minimum of a 386 to run.  I've gone overkill and I have it running on a Pentium 200.

Regarding the machine I have running windows 95, its running 95 because I think 98 is a little overkill for it. I threw a couple 6 gig harddrives in it, created some shared folders, and stuck it in the corner.  Now my wife and I have a place to store important files, and I can back it up pretty easily.  I honestly don't need the computer, but its a way to squeeze a little more life out of it.  ;)

I'll probably end up cleaning it off and giving it to a couple kids at my church.

Ohhhh. Well, then that makes them useful. I don't remember how much our Win95 machine has, but it ain't much. And my MacPlus has a whopping 20 MB. Useless. Although I've thought about using it for MIDI (music stuff). I used to use it for that many years ago and I don't currently have a MIDI adapter for a PC.
 
Something funny is that I work as the computer support person at a local hospital. We've got about 600 computers here and probably a majority of them are running windows 95 still. Unfortunately the hospital administration seems to be pretty cheap, so they're being pretty slow replacing them.

They just recently that they took the remaining 386 & Mac Classic machines out of service. Heck, they even had an Apple IIe still in use until a little over a year ago.
