Why should we read Revelation and study prophecy of Old Testament, New Testament and end times:

God has given us not so subtle clues of His existence as well as His plan along the thousands of years of man being on earth. The Bible is a love story, of His salvation for us, Jews and Gentiles alike.

In the first Chapter of Revelation, John was given an indication that a special blessing is reserved for those who read it and hear it:

Rev. 1:3 Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.

It is not easy to understand all that is written. In making your studies, you will find that there are some laws which the scholars follow in interpreting Revelation. There are a few variations and you will have to decide for your self which makes sense to you, but I encourage you to make a start in studying Revelation.

There are many types of friends in this world, passing acquaintances, casual yet good friends and then your close ‘I can tell anything’ friends. The latter are usually only a handful in number. Still, your life can impact all of these groups. For those of us that are blessed with a good imagination, I recommend reading The Left Behind Series. There is even a Left Behind for Kids series. I bring this up, as it tells about the people who were left behind, yet impacted before the Tribulation hits. The books are based on studies by Dr.Tim Lahaye and Jerry Jenkins. Even if we are not blessed with a Rapture before the Tribulation starts, or whenever it might happen, the happenings would still be similar. There are many fence sitters in life and it will take some tremendous world events to stimulate their urge to either believe in God or withdraw from any belief what so ever. If the Tribulation were to happen in our time, what could we say in advance to warn our acquaintances, friends, and close friends? If it happens in our time, shouldn’t we take the opportunity to study and pass on information that might be important to those people at a great time of need? A phrase or conversation from you could sit in the back of their mind and pop up in the time of need.

At this time, my question to you all is, Would you like me and/or others to post information on studies, world happenings, etc. on the forums for you to read and pray on? Would you be interested in posting references, etc on this thread? Realize that you would need to take in hand your own studies, and decide which philosophies you adhere to, these are not so important that they interfere with the fact that Jesus, the Son of God, was born per prophecy, died per prophecy and rose again, to shower us with the Love of God to wash away our sins, so that we might have life everlasting with Him. This study would hopefully be a discussion of what resources are out there for you to look for and keeping up with the current events which might fulfill prophecy.

While I agree that we as believers should read the book of Revelations (like we should read any scripture) I'll play the devil's advocate as well. lol

I have found that Revelations is a tough study to lead and discuss because it can very easily cause division. It's amazing how people get so wrapped up in pre-millenial/post-millenial theories. If you do decide to move forward be very careful because it seems to be the book of scripture that I have seen the most heated debate about in Christian ministry.. haha. Go figure, but people get touchy about prophect and prophetic interpretation :)

I don't think that which ever view you hold on that debate makes a difference to God. Like I said, the most important thing is our love and acceptance of Jesus. It certainly should not be a source of division in a discussion.

I totally agree. :)

Just from my experience our sinful nature seems to get in the way a lot of the time. :(

That was just something to watch out for. Nothing that should keep us from studying together though!

One of greatest things are explained in Revelation.

God Wins!

And also that Jesus is the Lamb, I have a bunch of posts on my blog going into detail on this.

"Iron sharpens iron". I think it would be exciting if God wins, as Mordos put it, in my lifetime. Revelations is the book I've studied the most, and understand the least lol. I've read the whole "Left Behind" series but don't hold that against me please :-)

You have a blog Mordos? linky?

If nothing else, maybe we can start a separate thread listing resources which we feel others might enjoy or benefit from. Either online resources, books we could refer or even tapes. Listing each resource with a brief blurb on what they are about, might help someone connect with a resource which could help them.

Agreed. Personally, I believe that in regards to the prophetic texts one should always keep an open mind and understand numerous possibilities of interpretation.

In studying Revelation's prophecies in regards to events, I also recommend a holistic approach including church history in regards to the book itself and the numerous interpretations done by sages past.

If we do make a separate thread about, then prepare to PH33R MY L1B3RAL SKOLARSH1P!! :D

As a side note, this forum site, CGA, has a policy of only having religious threads that are moderated. I am not sure if that is policy or procedure.

I will check.

Probably a bit of both. There are people who are experts and arguing the subjective to cause divisiveness between us.

I could see such a thread that started with "here is something happening in the world" and people commenting and giving their Christian perspective to it, careful consideration of the events and how God is working through them.

But leave debate out of the equation.

I love studying revelations because you have to go to so many books of the bible to be able to try to understand revelations.
