Why was I locked out of my own internet?

From the moment I turn on my computer, I have no internet. Everyone else in the household has internet but me. We are shared from the same router and why aren't they locked out like me!

Internet Explorer, Mozilla FireFox, those kind of web-browsers, it won't work, however, when I check my games on-line, it...kinda works...

I saw my Favorites on Steam, no problems, but when I joined a server, it crashed my computer.

When I check my router, it does show I am connected, however, when I check active sessions, it shows one with this on external; *.*.*.*:* .

It could be I have the active connection, but its not connected on my end.

As soon as my computer crashed, I had to reboot it by holding the power button then pressing it again to turn it back on.

Now, everything works, as you can see I'm typing my frustration here!

What I know is, when I directly connect my computer to the cable modem, it works. When I directly connect my computer to the router, either it does or doesn't work. I have no reason why I would lock myself out nor have I done anything else with my routers configuration.

This has been happening the start of last week, no other times/dates.

What could be the reason, as soon as I turn on my computer, I have no internet?

And yes, my CAT wire is connected to the computer's ethernet.

Something similar happend to me once, when it happens try to open the "network connections" within the control panel. If it doesnt show and explorer locks up we had the same issue. I would update your ethernet drivers and see if that stops it. Also checking the ethernet device in the device manager to see if any errors happened during initialization.

after checking everything try to ping goodle by going to start -> run, and type cmd in the dialog that pops up
then type ping www.google.com into the prompt. I have seen windows do some weird things to its networking layer before.

not to be a jerk or anything but the cable is called an ethernet cable and the connector is a rj-45. Just incase you want to speak about it again, and so other people dont get confused.

The CAT designations are just specifications of ethernet, cat 5/5e is a revision for 100mb, 6 is for gigabit, those are maximum speeds.

just some info so you know your terminology.

cat5E is capable of gigabit. As a matter of fact most gigabit installations i have been a part of is cat 5e. You don't need cat 6 except for 10 gigabit.

for the most part 5e is capable but cat 6 is what technically is for gigabit, 5e can handle 125mhz, just 25% more then cat 5, while cat 6 goes to 250mhz. In the end for installations not reaching close to the end of the spec (about 100-120 feet) it really doesnt matter as long as you dont route the cables through stuff like florescent lights :P

Did you install any new updates lately?

My Windows Update and Avast! Virus scanner is auto, so those shouldn't be a result of being locked out of the internet.

Otherwise, nothing manually, except for the LAN driver which was already installed when I got my custom-made PC. EVERYTHING has been updated soo much, I do not think anyone uses my OS; Windows XP Pro x64 Edition.

Even before, I've asked Hescominsoon, why my ATI video card is still 6.8 when I've updated it to 6.9, a dozen times!

[edited] And now, I'm going insane, it just downgraded to 6.7, how do you get a driver to downgrade itself!? [/]
.
For your information, vibrokatana, I'm currently using a Gigabit Router, Gaming router to be precise.

My downloads are awesome, but my uploads are soo bad...

Try switching the cable out with another one of the same type

I could, but no need. I'm sure its my router, since I always seem to be cursed with any simple problems with technology.

I'm sure its gonna be the same with my internet problems, ARGH!!!!!!!
I dont understand it, a problem occurs, I try and try and TRY to fix it with every possible answer it gives me. Weeks or Months past by, I try it again if it works, which didnt work before, its fixed, ITS FIXED!? :(

I had an issue a while back with win x64 not starting the network layer, I would try to disable the ethernet card, restart, then reinstall the driver.
