why is magic bad?

In Morrowind, People DO have magic inside of them. That wouyld never convince me that people in reality have magic in them....

im not sayin that all sheltered kids will break out once on their own, but a lot of the ones ive known do.

"no, anything not of God, is of the devil."

so wait, if it isnt something dealing with god, then its satanic? so that would mean that every game that is not dealing with god, is satanic. ie: counter strike, that dosent deal with god, so does that mean its satanic?

what about my toothbrush. is that satanic because it doesnt have a holy inscription on it?

something ive never bought into is demonic possession. where "the devil made me do it" ...bullcrap... you did it yourself, its called free will.

the pagans dont see what they worship as satanic because they dont follow our religion, only we see it that way. and morrowind isnt magic at all, its a video game...

heres an easy way to rate a game. if the person playin it isnt old enough to make a distinction between reality and the game, then they shouldnt play it.

simple.

lol, i ranted, srry, but i just woke up so my mind is going very fast!

byblo - you are missing the point.  you used the game as an example, and now you're thinking I'm talking about the game.  I'm not talkinb about the game, I could care less about the game, I'm talking about the concept your example espoused.

Jester  - can you brush your teeth and worship God at the same time?  Actually, since we are to care for our bodies, brushing your teeth can be seen AS worshipping God (we're cleaning/caring/maintaining the temple of God).  Can you worship God while playing counter-strike?  Is there some aspect of counter-strike that will stop you from worshipping God?  Is there something in Counter-Strike, that will drive you away from God?

Now, can you go worship the oak tree in your front yard and still worship God?

That is waht the statement "Anything not of God, is of the devil" means.  If it is something that hinders our walk with God, it is of the devil.  If it is something that takes worship away from God, it is of the devil.  If it is something that you are worshipping in lieu of God, it is of the devil.

As well, you don't believe in demonic possession?  Even though there are a number of accounts of it in the New Testament?

I believe anything that causes you to place Jesus second in any aspect of your life is of the Devil.  The Devil doesn't care if you worship the oak tree, play with magik, are a satanist or go around thinking you are God, so long as it doesn't place Jesus and God first.  Thats all he cares about.

That is why magik, or not respecting your parents wishes is dangerous, or the order of your interests is important.  Any where in your life that you place Jesus second, satan wins.

yes there are accounts of that in the new testament, there are also accounts of things in the new testament that do not happen in this age, and if they do, they are seldom reported or known about.

im saying that far too often, people would rather blame satan than take responsibility for their own actions.

and no, there is nothing about counterstrike that is driving me from god, but i can also say the same about doom 3, there is nothing in that game that drives me away from god either. even tho "everyone" (used loosley, cuz i know not all people) think its evil and of satan, now maybe if you played as a demon of hell, that would be different, but you play as a character that is working to stop hell from winning.

and if i worship that oak tree im still in essense worshipping god, who after all, made that oak tree along with all the others. lol, technically speaking that is, not that i worship that oak tree though, that would just be silly. "oh great oak tree of my front yard, bringer of squirrles, bombardier of acorns, what is thou bidding?" rofl, yeah, that would def be just plain pointless

whoa, i gotta go to work!

peace out yalls. god bless

actually no. worshipping the oak tree is NOT worshipping God.

I understand your point concerning responsibility for our own actions. but I would like to know, what items which happen in the NT do not happen today?

My point about the games, and the toothbrushes, is that they are not by their nature driving you away from God, therefor they can be of God. Yet if you allow yourself to pay more attention to them than God, then they are of the devil. If something isn't helpful to you, then it is harmful. There is no grey here, there is no middle ground. Things are either for God (helpful to you, to your walk with God, does not distract you from your walk with Him) or for the devil(harmful to you and/or your walk with God)

In fact, I choose a tree for the purpose of that the ancient Isrealites quite often would go an worship in the sacred groves of other people (i.e. tree worship/nature worship) and God would get quite cross with them for it.

I don't think he listed the game first because he outs it over god. He probobly didn't even think of it.
Leave the poor kid alone.

I agree with Jester, they don't believe in the devil thats christian. Do they even know who the devil is, probobly not. And it doesn't matter if their worshiping a tree or a bush, in the end if your christian u know they were all made by that one guy.
And is there really a satan. I think the latin satan means the choice to do evil. So is it really a person. Or is it really your action. (That didn't come out right.
And I agree with the postings made in the religion forum I forgot by who. But demonic posession back in the new testimant wasn't really posession, it was just people being sick.
Does it take anything away from Jesus? No.
Jesus healed some sick people. It was never deamons. People just precieved the sympthms, as being deamon.

I think lot of people try to use god to justify everything. From Harry Potter to Magic. But if god was really upset with Rowlings he'd probobly have struck her down by now. But he probobly looks at it as just a book, or just a game.

I did my rant for the week.

My point exactly...the enemy attacks when your gaurd is down.  The enemy is not out to win the war, he knows he's lost it.  He's out for the little victories and to make Christians look like fools.  On one hand we say we live for God and Jesus first in all aspects in our lives and then in the next sentance we put everything else first.  Its a point the enemy uses to attack us.

Just out of curiosity, what do you think caused me to take a look at his profile?

That takes away from Gods nature.  God allows people to live with their decisions and actions, even if they are against God.

Yes there is.

Job 1:6-7
One day the angels came to present themselves before the Lard, and Satan also came with them.  The Lord said to Satan, "Where have you come from?"  Satan answered the Lord, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it."

Luke 10:17-18
The seventy-two returned with joy and said, "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name."  He replied "I saw satan fall like lightning from heavan."

Does it take anything away from Jesus? No.

Actually, it does.  It is accusing Jesus that he didn't know what he was talking about.  The bible makes many distinctions between healing the sick and driving out demons.

Jeus runs my life not morrowind, MOrrowind is what I do when I am not trying to save people and my girlfriend! Jesus is my life, Morrowind is my hobbie. Something being simply magical in a game is like it being technologically impossible, What is the difference?

Matthew Chapter 5 verses 2-20
<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">2 When He got out of the boat, immediately a man from the tombs with an unclean spirit met Him,
3 and he had his dwelling among the tombs. And no one was able to bind him anymore, even with a chain;
4 because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him and the shackles broken in pieces, and no one was strong enough to subdue him.
5 Constantly, night and day, he was screaming among the tombs and in the mountains, and gashing himself with stones.
6 Seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran up and bowed down before Him;
7 and shouting with a loud voice, he said, "What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God, do not torment me!"
8 For He had been saying to him, "Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!"
9 And He was asking him, "What is your name?" And he said to Him, "My name is Legion; for we are many."
10 And he began to implore Him earnestly not to send them out of the country.
11 Now there was a large herd of swine feeding nearby on the mountain.
12 The demons implored Him, saying, "Send us into the swine so that we may enter them."
13 Jesus gave them permission. And coming out, the unclean spirits entered the swine; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, about two thousand of them; and they were drowned in the sea.
14 Their herdsmen ran away and reported it in the city and in the country. And the people came to see what it was that had happened.
15 They came to Jesus and observed the man who had been demon-possessed sitting down, clothed and in his right mind, the very man who had had the "legion"; and they became frightened.
16 Those who had seen it described to them how it had happened to the demon-possessed man, and all about the swine. [/QUOTE]

That is not a sickness.  The Bible clearly states that this man was possessed by an unclean spirit or a demon (actually a whole bunch of them).

There is no "real" magik in morrowind or diablo or dungeon siege. In the end, it is nothing more then a bunch of pixels on the screen.

Kidan was talking about the type of magik the game was implying. That type of magik (coming from oneself) is the most dangerous to practice. That is my take on his post.

As for playing games, for myself as a Christian, it is a vehicle to spread Gods word. Gods word should be spread through out the world, even into the strongholds of the enemy. But before going there, you have to be equiped and prepared. I for one do not go into vamp bars to spread Gods word, I know some who do. The same is true with games, not everybody is equiped to go into the Diablo 2 world and spread Gods word. Those who are not equiped find themselves putting God second to their want to play the game.

Whats the difference between playing Morrowind and Starcraft, or for that manner, any Christian game? Even a game made by Christians with Christian themese and values in it can be harmful to your relationship with God if you place it before God, even unknowingly. I know a lot Christians who play Diablo 2, some of them are out on Bnet spreading Gods word, and others are upto 3am simply playing the game because of an addiction to it (I will raise my hand to that point. I tried to justify it every way I could, but the game was using me, not God using it.)

I don't think it maters if the game is showing people killing others, or if it has demonic symbols or your characters using magik, if you are not equiped to play the game for Gods purposes, then don't touch it.

I don't play games to spread gods word, I play for fun. Just like I build model tanks for fun.

Again using god to justify stuff. There's probobly some guy in a porn store saying he's spreading gods word and getting people to god but really he's in there for the same reason as everyone else. I know really harsh example, but hopefully u understand.
I think everyone should be like Tammy Faye. I was watching the surreal life and if she doesn't like what someone's doing she walks away. She doesn't tell them to stop, she respects the fact that their beliefs are different.
I want to meet her. Her husdband is the one that stole all that money. They had gold refrigerators.

Do you act like her?

NO WAY! I will never just stand by letting poeple belive in anything but Jesus. no way no how, I lve them too much.

Probobly.
I think like CCRG said its her preference not to play Doom3 but if u're fine with playing go ahead. She's wise beyond her years. I don't think there are christian games or non christian games. I think anyone could play any game. Its how personally u previeve the game. In the end its your choice if u want to play it or not. If your fine playing the game play it and let people who don't want to play it be, and vise versa. U could probobly use that rule an any subject. From religion to Twinkies.

I know I don't listest to that rule sometimes. I guess its human nature.???

ANyone definitly should not play any game! NO one should play duke nukem because you pay stripeers to flash you and there are nude women being kinda raped by green tentacles! I dont care how christian you are playing that game is a sin! And no one should play postal or postal 2! You run around breaking into peoples homes, Tazering, Killing, Maiming and Urinating on them! Same games are a sin in there selves.
