Why I hate religion but love Jesus.

The author of the video, imo, is just trying to clarify the difference between Christianity and it being viewed by non-believers & the secular world as "just another religion." I'm sure everyone here who has spoken to non-believers about Christianity has done their best to explain this difference.

I'm a bit confused as to why so many people are saying that the author of this video is bashing church... I never heard that in the video.

However to be perfectly clear, I will elaborate on my previous post...

There are two basic ways to digest this video, the first and most common way is viewing it as a judgemental piece like the author is stating "people who go to church are hypocrites because the other six days of the week they act foolishly."

In my view this is an incorrect way to take the video.

The second way to take the video -- and the way I view it is this: that the people who attend church need to make the other six days of the week as equally Christ-centered as they do during their church time on Sunday.

This is Biblically correct, and actually part of what it means to "abide in Christ Jesus"

The only part of this video that could be considered "dangerous" would be that it would make the younger follower of Christ sin-conscious and self-concious, but this is where a pastor or christian advisor should step in and guide that person to teach them what grace is (also referred to in the video).

I hope that makes it more clear -- and no I was not involved in the video. However I think some people are reading more into it than what it says, which is causing some confusion.

That's precisely what I got out of it.

You can be a Saved Christian and not be Baptized, you can be a Saved Christian and not belong to a church, you can be a Saved Christian and not read your Bible, you can be a Saved Christian and not pray, you can be a Saved Christian and never once lead a person to Christ, you can be a Saved Christian and never do one thing Christ tells you to do in the Bible after accepting the free gift of Salvation.

But you can't be an obedient Christian without doing all of the above things.

Who is an obedient Christian?

I am certainly not.

I love how humble the guy was in the discussion after and how he admitted to the theology not being "air tight".

I love this quote from that last link.

But the question that everyone should be asking is: was Jesus opposed to religion as defined by Jefferson Bethke? The answer to that question is a definite yes. Jesus was opposed to self-righteous, man-made religion. Jesus was opposed to those who exalt man-made rules over the true, life-giving religion of God. The entire piece must be interpreted through that lens. You can’t separate out pieces of the song and say that they are doctrinally incorrect unless you first view the song through the lens that Jefferson intended. Every use of the word “religion” in the piece must be connected back to the original definition of the word “religion”.

Jesus was probably the most anti-religious person to walk the earth... a big reason why He was killed by the religious establishment of the day. The 'Official' definition of religion is not necessarilly the correct definition... what's the 'official' definition of sin, demon possession or Christianity? depends on who's defining it ;)

Religion started in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve tried to cover themselves with fig leaves after they sinned, hoping to redeem and reconcile themselves (restore thier relationship) with God. But man can't, salvation is by Grace and God reconciled us to Him through the cross. God demonstrated this by covering Adam and Eve with skins, meaning that innocent blood was required to cover their sin.... a foreshadow of what was to come. Religion is mans attempt or system to do redeem and reconcile themselves buy some other means, they may or may not incorporate the cross in thier somewhere.

Just becuase I have a relationship with my earthly father does not make me religous anymore than having a relationship with my heavenly father.
