Why is my new graphics card doing this:

If anyone has any pointers on how to fix it please let me know!

The new card is an EVGA GT 430

Drivers up to date?

Have you tried lowering video settings?

Chipset compatibility?

What is your Anti-Aliasing set at?

I have used every set of drivers that are available without any luck.

Chipset compatibility? No idea what that means, although I am pretty sure it's compatible with my computer.

AA - Application Controlled.... so I have no idea what it's set at in WoW.

And the GPU Temp had been a max of 54C

Yes, application controlled...meaning you have to check the setting in WoW. I would try lowering the anti-aliasing and see if that makes a difference. Your temps are well within threshold.

Most of the time, artifacting like that is caused from damage to the hardware, although sometimes software can cause the problem as well. I'll try searching google for known issues with WoW and your video card makeup as well.

Any overclocking done with the card at all? Did you check PSU req's before buying it as well?

Sorry for multiple posts, more questions are coming the more I think about it.

AA is set at 4x.

The card is not overclocked. It is exactly how it came from the manufacturer.

The PSU reqs are: 300W with 22 amps on the 12v rail.
I have a 500W with dual rails with 18 amps on each rail.

Another note: It doesn't always do this. Right now I am in game with no trouble. But some places/times it will just start happening and I end up reloading/restarting wow till it goes away.

You may have just gotten a bad card. I have the same card (Galaxy made though, not EVGA), and haven't noticed anything like that. Your power supply seems sufficient, and yeah the temps seem ok.

Other things I can think of: try taking out the card and putting it back in just to make sure it's in there solidly. Try running a benchmark test like 3dmark06 and see if you can reproduce the errors.

If you can return it without much hassle, that might be your best bet.

I've seen it before. It happens with cards that start to overheat for whatever reason. Pull the side of the case off, put a small desk fan blowing on the card and see if it still replicates after doing so. I vote heat.

Heat? Eww. Go MAVERICKS!

Sorry...useless promoting....

If max temps were 54 C, thats well within limits. I run my 560ti at 70-80 max load with no problems. It is possible it may just be a bad card......evga is good with their product support though...might want to contact them.

I'm curious... I've been going through tech support with EVGA to figure this all out. And they had me run OC Scanner to check for artifacts. I ran it for 2 hours without detecting any artifacts... but at the end of the test my GPU was running at 89C.

Will getting it up there in temperature like that once damage my card? I think it just got up there because of the test... but will it getting up there that once damage the card? Should I go ahead and replace it?

No...most cards can handle temps up to 99 C...so you should be fine.

So strange that it didn't detect any artifacts at all.

I knoooooooooow! The issue is so random I don't really know what to do about it. I don't want to RMA the card... because honestly I RMA almost every piece of technology I get at some point because there is always a problem. I want to break that trend...

  1. When I built this computer the motherboard was faulty
  2. My first ipod HD kicked out in a week
  3. first iphone 2 had a faulty battery
  4. iphone 3g came in the mail with a broken screen
  5. iphone 4 (1) the home button was messed up
  6. iphone 4 (2) the battery was messed up
  7. macbook - there was a dead pixel on the screen
  8. nvidia geforce 9800gt did not run correctly and had to return it
  9. xbox 360 cd drive wouldn't read cds
  10. xbox 360 overheated and had to be replaced.

I hate RMAs..... I hate hate hate em. I really don't want to have to RMA this graphics card too.. haha.

Buy an ATi. Seriously.

Edit: I just noticed how 60% of the things you've returned are Apple products... >_>
