I am a social gamer and that was why I bought a 360. I didn't even start seeing people with PS3s on campus until my last year there, but it seemed everyone had a 360. Say what you will about the Halo series, that game was a fantastic party game when you've got three or four boxes in the same/adjacent rooms.
I bought my PS3 about 2-3 years ago. I will say I was VERY torn on the 360vs PS3 issue...there were a lot more 360s out there, and a lot more games. That said, times have changed.
I agree Halo is a fantastic game, one of the best FPS out there. Overrated, but fantastic. I just meant there are plenty of other great series, and it's not worth it in and of itself compared to all that is on a PS3.
PSN is going P2P soon with plus as mentioned at E3...
No, not P2P. Playing is free. PSN+ gives you free games every month, extra features, etc. Not even close to comparing.
I don't need the wifi and got official wireless controllers for $29/piece with the charge and play kit (did not see a deal like that ANYWHERE for the PS3 controllers)...
Sure, but plenty of people do. I have 4 PS3 controllers and have not paid over $30 for any of them. Was hard to find them at that price 3 years ago, but they're on sale or bundled at his value all the time now.
Xbox LIVE is $4/month...!!! so much... more people spend more than that just to play one game online...
Call it what you want to try to make it sound cheaper, but it is still $50/year that needs paid up front. That also means $100 for 2 years, or $150 for 3. To be fair, Live cards can be found on sale, but still. And of course, that's $50 PER ACCOUNT on that xbox, so this price could double or triple if you have a family. I could say that someone will pay the price of a PS3 for live over the life of their Xbox...but no one has been able to keep one alive that long yet.

Agree that paying even more than Live costs is way too much, but it doesn't mean you're not getting a bad deal.
Every game I have bought for my 360 was $10-$20 cheaper than it was for the PS3 except MW2...

You can't really claim this is the rule. I will say I think both PS3 and 360 games are usually cheaper than Wii games, because they drop under $40 in a month and lower soon after, whereas most Nintendo games stay at $50 for a looooooooong time.
I have the 360 elite, 8 games, 3 controllers, Xbox LIVE, and everything I need for it all for around $430...when I priced out the same thing for the PS3 I was looking over $600...
This is why I went 360...I took DAYS pricing it out...and saved $170 at LEAST going 360...
Plus, on a more opinionated note like most of my previous posts, I do not like many of the exclusives on the PS3 besides MGS4...
EDIT: Now, yes, stock without sales and without used games, the PS3 can and probably is cheaper, however, with used games and the fact 360 stuff seems to be on sale much more often than the PS3 stuff...and without the need of wifi, the 360 kills in price...
Also, I put all of my games on my HDD for faster loading and what not and with 8+ games on it I am no where near filling up my "small" 160GB HDD... Oh, and I have movies and music on there too...![]()
You spent days figuring out up-front costs...and I know that $430 does not include a live acccount.
Honestly, it really works out like this:
If you do not want any online play, game updates, hard drive installs, ability to buy games, etc, you can get a 360 Arcade and it WILL be cheaper than PS3. If not, PS3 is cheaper, without exception.
