What's holding my computer back?

It'll be compatible. The PC2-5300 just means its DDR2, running at 5.3gb/s (gigabits/sec) bandwidth which is 667mhz. PC2-5400 means the same thing, its just 5.4gb/s. Both will perform and feel the same, just slight discrepancies in how the RAM is tested between different manufactures.

OCZ has a tendency to release memory at speeds ahead of what other companies release and as such don't really have a standard to name the memory. Generally I buy ram based on the lowest CAS latency in the motherboards stock frequency from a brand that I know and have used previously (usually OCZ or crucial).
