What was the first real mmo you played?

Camelot Herald:
Character creation is now open on Ywain! At the same time, we have closed all character creation on Devon, Killibury, and Bossiney. We encourage the remaining people on those servers to transfer off as soon as possible. Over the next couple of weeks, we will be disabling the content on the discontinued clusters.

Apparently they are consolidating their servers, which means no more percival. :(

Bye bye Odale! You had a great run! :(

I forget which server Jhostav (my Troll Shaman) was on. Galahad, I think?

yeah not so much...

lots and lots of MUDs, but the first graphical MMO for me was EverQuest. It stole a year of my life. (12-18 hrs a day, every day)

Gemstone III had me hooked! Once graphics emerged I started EQ and AC but WoW pretty much took over. I have at least tried every other mmo (beta/release) and am still looking... Aion is next.

Tabula Rasa had my attention before getting dropped as well.

As a tribute to all the Tribe of Judah members who played Dark Age of Camelot back in the day, here's a gallery of screenshots previously posted on the old DAoC chapter site (all tossed into two folders instead of neatly sorted as they were before, because I was feeling lazy and didn't want to take the time to create 15 different folders on Photobucket).

Thanks Tek :)
You're quite welcome. I'll probably re-create the DAoC screenshot galleries on the next Tribe of Judah site once it's up and we've settled into it.

The first MUD I played was Aldara ][ around 1994. I played (and was occasionally immortalized) on various muds, and my first MMORPG (aside from a brief experience in the gankfest known as Ultima Online) was Everquest. I was logging in and creating my characters (I believe my first character was a monk who started in the western town near the Erudite island) on the first day it opened (and the login queues were like 4 hours long).

I burned out on EQ after my enchanter lost his corpse in a Sol A lava pit.

I took up MMORPGs again during the beta for DAoC, where I was active on the forums and am actually included in the manual/credits for the game. I played DAoC for quite a while, and then dropped it.

I haven't played an MMORPG seriously in years. I've recently dabbled a bit with Runes of Magic (which is a solid WoW clone, apparently) and DDO (which recently went free to play, and you can purchase stuff via microtransaction, though you totally don't need to).

I've started playing DDO with a friend of mine, and I'm having a good time. It's really unique in the MMORPG space. You get xp based on instanced quest completion (mostly), and not by killing mobs (though there are adventure zones that can net you xp for killing x number of mobs in them). You can also get xp for exploring said adventure zones, hitting certain areas in them, and once you hit them all you get some bonus xp. There are also uncommon "rare" named mobs in many zones that you can get xp for.

Traps can also be very prevalent in these instanced adventures as well, and having a rogue there to deal with them is a major boon (and sometimes a necessity). Every class has a place and internal variety.

One of the very cool mechanics in the game is the shrine concept, where you heal up and refresh your "daily" abilities after resting at a shrine. You don't restore hp or mana any other way (aside from healing spells or potions).

Anyway, that's my MMORPG history and present circumstance. I'm looking for a Christian DDO guild =) I have a few characters and an RL friend on the Argonnessen server.
