What multiplayer PC games are being played most here?

Vote for each multiplayer PC game you are going to be playing for a while (months). I'm trying to decide what game to get when I get my new computer (if and when I do) and a large community is a plus. So what are you playing or will be playing for a long time. Some games aren't in the running for me but I've included them out of curiosity as to popularity.

This is my first poll. I hope I set it up alright as it was supposed to allow multi-voting (hope it does). Feel free to post a "write in" and select other if I did not list your game.

I'm enjoying Tribe of Judah's re-emerging first-person shooter community by playing TF2 and UT3.

To be honest, though, I think I spend more time on my DS than any other system right now. That will likely change after May of this year, after my wife and I move somewhere and settle in for a while.

Games that are being played by CGA'ers are from most CGA game discussions, except the Strategy discussions, only a handful of people play them.

So, don't get Strategy games.


I voted Other since most of my multiplayer games require a Pentium 2.

The only exceptional game is CS:S.
 
Hmm, does cursing IE for never rendering anything properly count? I bet thousands of developers are currently working to slay that beast.

Bwahh! Whoops. Can you tell I am not a Starcraft fan to know that :p. I just picked a bunch of multiplayer game names that have had a lot of buzz or were in Amazons top sellers (although Starcaft 2 isn't yet). Hey 4 people are already playing Starcraft 2, must be beta testers :p (nah it's fine to vote for if you are 99% sure you will play a game to death, even if it's not out, just only vote for multiplayer games). I actually had more games but it's a 10 poll limit so I guessed which would be popular. Hmmm no Supreme Commander players yet, although it was only in there because I've always wanted to play it T_T :p.

This thread did have an ulterior motive in seeing how Unreal 3 popularity matched against TF 2. TF 2 is pwn'ing as I thought it would. Although are there map/mod making tools in TF2 yet? If TF 2 doesn't get some I'd think Unreal 3 might have a longer run from the extra maps and modes.

On a side note (because the world would implode if I didn't have one :p): It seems like the vast majority of games are either sequels or spin-offs -_-. It always drives me nuts to pick up a game on a sequel. I know most game plots are pretty shallow so it's not like I'm missing something, it just annoys the orderly, perfectionist, nut I am. Oh and anyone heard of "Sins of a Solar Empire"? I had not before I saw it high in Amazons list.
 
I think a lot of people are staying away from the newer games[ UT3 for one ] because the hardware requirement is so High, as for my Games I am playing, I Love UT 3, still hit UT2K4, COD 4 is alright but it is slowly losing its fun, BF2142/Northern strike, occasionally Battlefield 2 mods, World in Conflict, Hellgate London[only because I got a Free Subscriber account as a tester], and on occasion Crysis. Upcoming releases I will buy are Frontlines: Fuel of war, and eventually TIBERIUM, it is C & C in a FPS Game, check it out: http://www.gamespot.com/video/944337/6185233/tiberium-interview-1

I've gotten into the open beta of Frontlines FOW. It's starting to grow on me, but for me it's basically TF2.
 
Of course I'm gonna say UT3 :p. UT3 is off to a slow start, but the mappers and modders are hard at work as usual in the UT community. UT3's buggy release and the hardware requirements definitely didn't do it any favors. I like TF2, but in my opinion you need several guys to make it any fun. With UT you can have fun with 2 or 20 guys, plus there's all the different gametypes; DM, TDM, CTF, VCTF and Warfare. Besides, if u get UT3 me, you and Blackbeard can have lunchtime smackdown like we used to with ut2004 :D. I've had guys try to get me into COD4, but military type games get old real quick for me. I like Unreal Tournament series because it is "Unreal", I like the fantasy sci-fi aspect of the game.

I'm more into playability than realism.

Meaning if I'm going to buy a high graphic game, I'd better enjoy it by playing it many, many, many times.

Lost Planet: Extreme Condition is a game I've played over 20 times, on the demo. Unfortunately, the Full Version is incompatible with my abomination Operating System. :mad:

Anyways, games like TF2, UT3 and WoW, I would not play them many, many, many times, so there is no point buying them.

Even if that wasn't the issue, my hardware can run all 2007+ games from low - medium graphics.

Tiberium looks interesting since its much better than C&C: Renegade.

I'm also interested with Fallout 3 (Post-apocalyptic Action RPG), Halo Wars (RTS), Left 4 Dead (Co-operative, Survivor Horror FPS), Starcraft II (RTS) and Turning Point: Fall of Liberty (FPS).
